I'm sure the police will be asking him the same question 🙂

This reminds me of those people that were constantly pinning their hopes on various rumours about doping at Team Sky to come true. The Telegraph is playing the role of Dan Roan desperately throwing more and more mud in the hope that something will stick or at least get the ‘no smoke without fire’ response.

It reminds me of those situations where there is a dawning realisation that the person who is the subject of the allegations has something to hide. Except in Cake Stop where she gets a free pass.

This story may well prove to be terribly embarrassing for one side of the debate.
Which side? Time will tell.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
You've not been able to substantiate the hook that you claim she is on. Let us know when you have anything at all.

As I've said before, time (and the police/HMRC investigations) will tell. Even if she does get off hook then the bad PR will have been worth it, so there's no big downside on the non-leftie side of the argument 😉

The hook is the accusations about electoral mis-declarations and falsely claiming council tax discounts. However you're still confused between allegations and proof. Never said anything is proved yet but there are multiple allegations being investigated as we all know.
Your defence of Rayner, while only based on the argument 'you can't prove it yet' is quite enthusiastic. Do you really think that there is no chance of her having committed any offences? If so, on what basis?

Stevo I think you're mistaking people finding your incessant and wildly hypocritical posting funny with "defence of Rayner"

Even Dan Hodges seems to be losing interest in the actual allegations about Rayner. Possibly as (almost) no-one really cares, least alone the electorate.
Meanwhile...

What are you expecting the result of the police investigation to be, if they conclude she has likely committed an offence?

Not confused. Not a defence. Just want to see what you've got beyond "Angela Rayner owned a house and then she sold it". Seems to me that we have as much evidence that you or I underpaid tax. The fact that you've not denied it surely means you have questions to answer, no? I guess I'd better make a full public disclosure, too. 😁

The only thing that puzzles me about this is why Rayner didn't issue a statement at the outset to set out the facts. I don't think stringing it out benefits her.
0 -
Either she just couldn't be arsed justifying herself to these people or wanted to string them along and get their hopes up whilst knowing full well herself she had nothing to worry about (seems to be working if that is the case).

I think she believed that it being her only house meant CGT wasn't payable - that is what she said. Now that she knows that it's not as simple as that, she's realised that it probably still isn't payable but for a different reason.
And it seems likely she did put the wrong address on the electoral roll. Probably just trying to brazen that out because the police can't do anything about it.

She got peed off when someone published a copy of her child’s birth certificate. So not likely to be forthcoming about her personal life to a bunch of slavering hacks.
0 -
Seems the most likely explanation. She also clearly enjoys a political fight, especially winding up Tories.

I have a suspicion that she doesn't mind this being strung out so the (likely) exoneration (cf Currygate) will be all the more amusing. That she herself brought it up in PMQ when she stood in for Starmer suggests she's not overly worried.

She said at the outset that as she was being accused by Lord Ashcroft of claiming to be non dom whilst sitting in the Lords fame, if he published his tax returns, so would she.

Do tell me how I'm being hypocrital here.

As I've mentioned before, Rayner stating the facts might cause her a problem, which could explain the reticence. But let's see.

Nick Boles hit the nail on the head with his comments. Going after someone for something so minor if it were true, on the basis of nothing but hearsay, at the same time as stuff like Menzies is in the news. It is not a good look for either the Tories or the Telegraph.

By all accounts “pint-sized loser’ is a quote from Nadine Dorries, even better.
I cannot verify this as I have not read her book.

Someone obviously read the title of this thread, and did. A Tory minister.
0 -
Oof time to dust off the swingometer, its already twitching.
0 -
I see a second Tory has taken the thread title to heart.
Not necessarily sure it's sensible taking on Tory MPs with a checkered past. Defending your convicted husband after he was found guilty of 3 counts of sexual assault does not smell of good decision making.

broken clocks and all that

Wouldn't touch with a very long pole. Defending her convicted husband is putting a gloss on it.

Sold the story of her divorce to the Sun for £25k while an MP for the constituency he had to stand down from.
Not sure why Labour want them just now, apart from for the bantz.
0 -
Definitely the bantz. It’s an opportunist move on her part.
