The issue isn't the colour of the rosette, it's their deep unseriousness

I think Hilary Benn, assuming he keeps the NI brief, comes across as a more serious thoughtful politician than much of what's been sent here and Starmer has some NI in his background as a human rights advisor to the PSNI and has consulted for/reported on the NI Prosecution service.
As I say though, it's not necessarily a rosette thing. Most of NI would have Julian Smith back in the morning...but, as you may recall he was moved on by Boris Johnson, as I suspect he spoke up for his brief and that was inconvenient

Sunak did a Downing St address yesterday, it somehow passed me by. Apparently the press got excited thinking he was calling a GE…

Calling for unity having deliberately hired Anderson and Braverman to stir sh*t up and in the same week posing for photos with a load of conspiracy theory cranks strikes me as lacking in self-awareness.

Indeed, supporting protesting Welsh farmers while wanting to curb protests was an interesting one.

Brian's tax expert has some tax advice. They look poorly thought through to me, but I haven't read the supporting info.

Sounds like a friend of mine transferred over there for the Home Office has a free holiday.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Well, at least they managed to fly someone out then

That was the joke I made. 🤣

This is truly excruciating.

Yeah, I mentioned it in the election thread. Do they really think that will make him look more himan to voters (or that anyone will believe they don't have people doing it all for them)?

They managed to pick out the two or three domestic tasks that the staff don't do for them, and Sunak basically says he's such a control freak that he can't stand his wife doing them slightly "wrong".

Didn't Cameron try this with videos of them sorting recycling, standing next to a vast granite topped island in a kitchen larger than most people's houses?

. . . I seem to remember hamface sipping from a coffee mug with some kind of "man of the people" motif on it.

Politicians would be better off looking for someone else's baby to hold. At least when out in public we can see how they handle verbal abuse.

I'll go for a beer or two with the extra £110 a month that will appear in my pay packet come April and stimulate the economy.

I'd have thought a tax expert would have a better grasp of this Stevo.

The overall level of taxation last year was the highest for more than 70 years.
And it is forecast to get higher.
The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) - the independent body which makes forecasts for the government - predicts that it will collect 37.1p of every pound generated in the economy in 2028-29.
That would be the highest level in 80 years.
Remember, this is the total tax take, not just personal taxes, national insurance or VAT.

Have a look at your pay packet in March and then again in April and tell me whether the net amount goes up or down.
Then tell me which you think it will go under a Labour overnment.

These discussions are quite funny because obviously you know better, but then slightly depressing when you remember PMQs will go along a similar line only far more impolite.

I'm pretty sure PAYE aren't the only taxes you pay. Taxes are going up whatever the result in May or whenever. We all know that.
The spending cuts that the tax cuts are based on would not be implemented even in the unlikely event that Hunt is around to enact them. That means we're borrowing more.
Borrowing for tax cuts.
Great

My gross pay will be the same next month, my pay after tax will be higher.
Overall taxation as a percentage of personal income will rise.
These statements are entirely compatible with one another.
In other news, I left Scotland in time to avoid the new 45% band, at the same time as avoiding the 47% band. Overall, with some short term Tory policies, I'll be about £500 a month better off, which goes nowhere near offsetting the new mortgage.

True, but that's not the point I'm making as I'm sure you're aware.
I would have thought you and Pango would be delighted that taxes are high, what with you being centre lefties.
