Whatever your chromosomes are aka birth sex - else you’re gonna get thousands of men suddenly deciding they’re women to avoid the draft.
If you’re so neurodivergent you can’t follow orders obviously the battlefield is not for you, but that’s not new.

im not saying women ought not to serve. Like I said, knock yourself out if you want to volunteer. Go be special forces if you can do it. Why not.
i don’t think *conscripting* women on the same basis as men is sensible, for the same reasons we separate men from women in most sports.

Nobody has suggested conscription, but have fun with the hypothetical debate if you wish.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I was taking issue with this bit of the posted article not referencing people.
In a speech at an armoured vehicle conference, Gen Sir Patrick was not making an argument for conscription - where men of fighting age are required to enlist in the military - but rather laying the foundations for a voluntary call up if war broke out.

There are historic precedents.

There's a large body of water between us and any potential enemy, I suspect that vastly reduces the risk of us being caught in a Ukraine type scenario.

Although we don't seem very good at stopping people crossing it.

Would that be the Atlantic 🤔
I share your concerns about those crazies.

I think even the "Tofu-eating Wokerati" would accept that we could try and sink enemy ships rather than escort them to UK waters to honour humanitarian obligations.

I do wonder how long wokeness lasts when bombs start falling. Hope I never find out.

Speaking of the Americans, what militaries would have the capacity to mount a sustained invasion across a sea border?
I guess there's an argument that NATO countries may have to commit more men if Russia were to move through Ukraine...

That explains why we've never been in any protracted wars!

Really don't know where to put this. Frost saying that a man with 91 indictments against him, a rapist, fomenter of an attempted coup (and probably the Republican nominee for the Presidency), who ballooned the national debt, has made it possible for abortion to be outlawed in several states, and praises dictators, is the new role model for conservatism. Simply marvellous.

Well yes we're not going to wait until Russia gets to Normandy before getting more involved are we

The Romans, Normans and Vikings seemed to manage quite fine with old tech. 😉

Mounting a D Day style invasion would be well beyond the capacity of most militaries. The German military thought better of crossing the channel after trouncing much of Europe.
Russia can't manage to make much progress against Ukraine.

I'm not sure that Michelle Mone has quite worked out how Twitter works. Or journalism. Or what most people think of her. Or what the Streisand Effect is.

I think we have had some assistance at the time, not to mention getting our cities so smashed up that we were still rebuilding 40 years later.

One way to solve the NIMBY issue but possibly a bit drastic.

She's an idiot with large knockers, let's be honest here. Who is now showing her class. As is her aggressive husband. They do actually remind me why I left Scotland, because there's no societal strata available that is free of people like that.

TBB is corect that my choice of roles was mocking your Victorian attitude towards women serving in the armed forces.
If you think of frontline soldiers as a small market town then you need a colossal logistical effort to keep them fed, watered, clean, plenty of ammo and patched up or buried when blown up.
I see no reason why women can not back fill these 2nd line jobs and free up men to get killed and maimed on the frontline.
I see no difference between a man or woman being blown up driving a truck.

How much of warfare is about physical strength, rather than brains and endurance?
Obviously women can't open jam jars, so all units would been to be at least mixed gender,.or there would need to be a design around.

The ICJ is giving its iterim verdict on the genocide case against Israel.

Strong win for South Africa. Israel seem to be looking a bit genocidal.

Ukraine can conscript any bloke between 27 and 60.
Surely many women 18-30 would be more use than a 60 year old bloke?
0 -
I know several women that are stronger than me, pretty sure there are a lot of women stronger than Rick.
0 -
Alternatively there are some 60 year old men fitter than some 30 year old men.

If they add a fitness criteria to the conscription, I should be safe at least.

Problem is that when things get a bit hairy in a conflict, there may be a deficit of traditional canon fodder, with surplus logistics folk in the short term. So do you leave the logistics folk twiddling their thumbs whilst the enemy advances or do you throw them onto the front line?
I'm fairly sure Captain Darling didn't sign up expecting to be blown to bits alongside Private Baldrick, but that's how things panned out.
But anyway, surely conscripting women would be a last resort, as someone needs to stay at home to do the cooking and cleaning.
