i think the thing is this..
when the What

etc gets asked here WhatMTB lot will take time explaining to a newby what they should be looking for and giving helpful advise 99.9%, ask the same question on mbuk and you get 75% good answers and 25% flame, spam and abuse.. That i think is the greatest worry for WhatMTB members..

Put the percentages the otehr way round if they use text talk.
TBH "genral" and "tech" are pretty good for advice, although we just end up with pages of "me disk braks is noizzy" And that tends to irritate people. The other thing that makes MBUK look toss for serious stuff is the fact hardly anyone whos new and asks a question has the decency to pass on their knowledge when the same question is asked a few day later. That irks me slightly.

The reason for that is the ammount of traffic that forum sees is huge, and peaks in the school holidays.
When you have seen hundreds of topics asking "lolzzzz wot fork for dirtjumpin shud a git?" you tend to take requests with a pinch of salt.
Honest questions will get a decent reply, those typed in text wont as, strange as it seems, we hate text talk.

Not to bad, Just fitting into my new suroundings...
Loving the colour scheam obviously.
I take it your a slightly more experianced member of this forum then.
Oh, and hardrocks are good starter bikes, If you had 2 people asking you at the same time "just getting into biking, doing some XC and have œ250 to buy a new bike" you wouldn't say "GT avelance" to one and "Hardrock" to the other would you?
Sorry we don't change answers to make it more intesting.

If their budget is around œ300 and they aren't sure what discipline of mountain biking they wish to take up, then yes, we will recommend a Specialized Hardrock. I've got two in my households stable, one has been used for: XC racing, Enduro Racing, Street, DJ and Singletrack duties.

i'm looking forward to the "core" of the MBUK being a click away.. the WhatMTB form has slowly amassed helpers and FAQ's for "noisy brakes" etc.. i think with Nick at the helm as a mod the info will merge together well from WMTB and MBUK to provide helpful advice for members.. but your right the "lolzzzz wot fork for dirtjumpin shud a git?" would still get semi civil responces (and still does) on the WMTB forum rather than the Flames on MBUK...

A couple of forum etiquette questions:
1. Do you believe what people post, without photographic evidence?
2. Do you take it on face value the sex of a member? (similarly without photographic evidence, but this is of a more 'prove it's really you' nature)
3. Do any of you take cake on 'forum rides'?

The cross country forum on MBUK is also one of the more civilised centres. We even have a race bog!
I don't think as many of the kiddies will be joining the new forum as frequently as they do at the moment. I'm sure the thought of a combined roadie and mtb forum would be enough to put most kids off from posting their "wot frk 4 mi STP!???" topics. I could be wrong on that, so don't hold me to it when we get a flood of them!
