I like to think the "Vote PP" branding will sway a lot of swingers.

I think I'd prefer one I'd paid into rather than one paid by somebody else.

See above. Some people make voluntary payments.

Regardless, as far as possible I'd rather rely on my own savings than other people's NIC. I'm quite sure I'll give my children enough to worry about when I'm old and infirm, without having to fund my living costs.

I take your point but just think of the wage rises they could get of companies didn't have to provide profits to shareholders, like pension funds. Nobody is an island.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Good article on the subject (albeit a few months old). RC will approve of my source https://www.ft.com/content/cb7d3b26-ba7d-4968-ad47-c3c553827887
Unfortunately the way the state pension is set up always means it is reliant on enough coming in from the current working generation to cover those getting the pension. With the decline in birth rate since the 1960s it’s going to be problematic. I guess it had to be set up that way to allow money to be paid out when it first started without waiting across the working life of a generation but like a Ponzi scheme you eventually run out of enough people putting money in to cover those taking out.

While on this subject apparently the minimum income that a retired couple require is £22,400.
The government pension will pay out £23,000 after the next triple lock increase. £300 each disposable, woohoo!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Generating profit for its shareholders is the purpose of a company. Why would anyone set one up if there was no return on that investment?

More investors, more profit required. Point was no man is an island. A pension fund derives it’s money off the backs of others.

I feel like we are misunderstanding one another. A business exists to generate profit. That is its purpose. You seem to be describing a cooperative.

Anyone else see the environmental data scientist pop the myth that eating locally is the most sustainable way to eat? On Channel 4 new last night.
Most carbon emissions come from the land usage (clearing land for farming) and the act of farming - using fertilisers etc. The transport of the food is apparently really tiny compared to that.
What you're eating and how it's produced is much more important. The data suggests that for example steak from South America consumed in the UK has a much lower carbon footprint than UK produced meat because of the production methods.

Interesting, you'd think that a lot of south American beef would have even worse carbon footprint if you allow for forest clearance.

I wonder how long after Prince Harry returns to his beloved Meeeeegan that leaks of HRH's type of cancer start to emerge? Just a thought.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

depends how fast the palace flunkeys decide to leak it to their chums in the press on the condition it's unattributable but hinted to come from harry

I'm going to suggest that Charlie is in worse condition than reported. Estranged family members do not fly thousands of miles for routine (for cancer) care.

Most normal ones would pick up the phone for 45 mins rather than doing a transatlantic flight.

Publicity/image conscious ones might 🤑

But Brian (no not that one) isn't Hazza's dad anyway, so why bother? Is this a Netflix episode?

So do we think Sunak's remarks about the definition of a woman were calculated for the Gammonshire vote?

I think he's just one of those people who can't judge a social context and what behaviour is therefore appropriate.

Nah, whatever he is he is scripted. This was a pre scripted jibe.

He is spectacularly inept at doing politics and just can't help himself at reinforcing this opinion on almost every issue. How he got to the top job is no more or less baffling than Truss.

You can have a planned a joke and still realise when you stand up that it's going to land badly and you should say something else. Especially when public speaking is a big part of your job and something you have been doing since school.
