Recent months have not all gone the way I'd hoped but it does mean I get to watch this...

Jumbo play silly games and win silly prizes

    Yes.
They lose time, but still have to work for the yellow jersey, now.

When racing is good, it's really good. Terrific!

Gap given as 24" so it's 28" regained in total.
Which means Vingegaard leads this tour by 25".

Burning off Kuss on the Tourmalet always felt risky.

They should have backed off when pog stayed on the wheel

    Great stage.
Not seen the Tourmalet raced like that in... well not sure I ever have.
Ballsy from Jonas, brilliantly handled from Pog, aand Wout is still Wow!

If Pog hadn't been able to hang in then that was a possible knock-out blow. They risked it, they lost, but only half a minute and still have the advantage (and yellow). Big boost for Pog though.

The race is never done in the 1st week.

Sepp Kuss has turned from mountain goat to mountain politician for some rather uncomfortable questions.

I don't really blame JV for trying to stick the boot in today - attack your opponent when he's at his weakest and all that. It's making for a great narrative as a neutral.

That's true - it felt a decent tactic given what happened yesterday, and it worked to reduce it down to just the two contenders.

I think the other mistake was going so hard when WVA pulled over and Pog wasn't getting dropped.

Bora could have played that better

There was a chance to drop him on the steeper section, it was a risk. I don't think it really played into the final result that much, Pogs attack was savage, on the part of the climb that suited him far better - he would have done it anyway

Worth the risk. As Pog just said, if he couldn't hold on the Tourmalet he migt as well have gone home

Given how badly he cracked yesterday, Jumbo had to go for it today.
    No half measures, either.

They've looked at where Pog might be vulnerable (long and steep and high), looked at how he's come into this race (less underbaked than we thought yesterday, but that's hindsight) and looked at where that could be exploited. Today was a day to try, they rolled the dice and lost about 30" for quite a bit of work.

If they'd succeeded then they might have put 2 minutes into Pog with the rest of the GC hopefuls, that's a serious prize to roll for.

Good for the race, not so good for JV, but no tragedy
