It was a fast descent that drew the riders in to going fast

Twitter (his team) saying Mader is badly injured

Others (so possibly not reliable) saying he had to be resuscitated and was taken to hospital by helicopter.

Just seen a pic unfortunately - Sheffield sitting up, Mader not.

Doesn't look anywhere near a road.

Yeah no sign of any road in that one... must have fallen a way.

    Bl00dy hell.

“At race kilometre 197 in the descent of the Albula Pass, two riders crashed at very high speed. The race doctor was on the scene of the accident within two minutes. Magnus Sheffield was responsive. He was transported to Samedan hospital with bruises and a concussion,” read the statement.

“Gino Mäder lay motionless in the water. He was immediately resuscitated and then transported to Chur hospital by air ambulance. The severity of his injuries has not yet been fully clarified. An update will be given as soon as new information is available. The circumstances of the accident are being clarified."

Roland Thalmann (Tudor Pro Cycling) told SRF that he had encountered the aftermath of the crashes as he descended towards the finish in La Punt.

“After a long curve, two bikes were lying on the side of the road, which didn't look nice,” Thalmann said. “When I looked back, I saw that two riders were quite far down.”

Bardet and Skjelmose saw the Sheffield crash and afterwards Bardet said „It looked really bad. I hope he's fine" while Skjelmose said „He went off the road and then he could no longer control his bike; it could have been a lot worse“.

Eye-witness reports indicate that Mäder was somehow involved in Sheffield's crash, but it's unclear what's meant since he was a long way behind the group in which Sheffield was riding.

Swiss media is saying this is the long curve Thalmann is referring to:

And this is the slope they fell down and the ditch where they both ended up,

Evenepoel has criticised the Tour organisation for having the finish at the bottom of the descent, as it can encourage risk-taking. Skjelmose has said similar, although he also added that any descent has its risks. Several riders have posted Get Well messages to the injured on Twitter.

Not really watched this at all, but who is the women commentator today?

Has she been on all week?

    Liking her style and delivery.

Nice refreshing rough diamond style, new to it I suspect as some talking over each other, but really like her observations and contributions.

    *Is it Marianne Vos.....?

Not heard her name mentioned before, looks like she retired from racing.
I hope they give her more airtime on the English speaking channel.

Jings, I watched the last 20km or so of the stage on catch up and didn't hear / see any of that. 🤞 for both of them.

Today’s stage has been shortened with the removal of the Albulapass and Lenzerheide due to landslides in Brienz GR. They will start in Chur and ride for 140km along the rest of the proposed route.

Presumably that's today's stage either cancelled or neutralised out of respect.

It seems like todays stage is going ahead?

Not sure how anyone can focus on a race today.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

He was a local legend on my adopted home roads around Zürich. Often seen out and about on the road or mountain bike and always smiling. Always happy to say hello when he wasn’t out bagging KOMs.

    RIP Gino
