    Definitely went too early

Fanny Smith said that as soon as Evenepoel made his move.

(I know she is not a professional cyclist, she is a freestyle skier specialising in skicross, but she grew up in Villars-sur-Ollon and, as part of her overall fitness programme, she rides a bike; she said she knows the climb up to Villars blindfolded, she has ridden it that many times. She was at the finish today)

Remco basically not in the shape he hoped rode poorly and exposed himself to attacks ... Inexperience

He's local to me. Up and coming rider who's been on the verge of something really big (was 2nd in Fleche Wallone), this was his first WT win.

Skjelmose came over very well in the interview I saw, very modest and down-to-earth. Said that, before today he was 'very unsure' about his climbing ability, but after today he will only be 'unsure' about it. Hopes nonetheless to defend the newly-acquired jersey.

He was asked about his name (how to pronounce it and which bit is the more used) - I didn't realise until recently that the Danes have the same surnaming convention as the Spanish (although as far as I remember neither Riis nor Rasmussen included their mother's surname in their full name). Therefore, some websites still (incorrectly) list Skjelmose as Jensen.

I thought the guy who finished second, Felix Gall, did well too – he had to work harder than Skjelmose to bridge the gap to Evenepoel because he was farther back when Evenepoel went, and he only decided late to give it a go.
Apparently he comes from triathlon (as his build confirmed) , and once just wanted to do taekwondo!
And first time I've seen Ayuso – impressive too.

At the bottom of the Col des Mosses, Hirschi and Pidcock appeared fairly well forward as if they were both independently planning an attack on the descent, however nothing materialised, perhaps due to the change in weather. Pidcock did try to keep up with the GC contenders, but Hirschi eased off completely, as if contemplating another stage when he is well down the classification.
Similar is being said of Reichenbach, the Tudor plan tomorrow supposedly being he gets into a successful break.

Yeah needs to ride like he’s a TTer who can go uphill pretty fast.

Should of followed and reached out a km to go . Probably would have won

Lutsenko and Pronskiy, both Astana, DNS today. Lutsenko struggled yesterday, and acc to Astana is just ill, not with Covid.

The stage today has more or less the same ending as 2 years ago when Carapaz won against Fuglsang, and 40 secs ahead of a group of 6, of whom Uran, Schachmann and Alaphilippe are there this year.

They covered nearly 54 km in the first hour today! The break only formed as they reached the climb to Crans-Montana and comprises 11 riders, 1-10 ahead of a chasing group and 2-10 mins ahead of the peloton, with a few others ahead of the peloton.
The break includes Impey, Calmejane, Arndt, Narvaez, Mas and Mäder (who bridged acrossv fairly late to the original 10). The mountains jersey, Zukowsky, is in the chasing group.

Eenkhoorn (another of the front 11) took the points at the summit, but Calmejane came second and thus now has the virtual KOM jersey.

Maybe he wanted to show the Pro Race forum people that he can do whatever Jonas and Pog can…and failed 😉

As far as I understand, Evenepoel said yesterday he was happy with what he showed, and also that he won't make yesterday's mistake again – which I take to be that he recognises he made a tactical mistake.
