Just to balance out my paint job post, and display my ignorance, I've never heard of Van Rysel bikes.

Although tbf most carbon bike look the same to me so may as well be from the same factory with varied price paint jobs.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Not if the riders are expecting a top quality bike. But then I've never ridden a BTwin either so they could be good for all I know. Not ridden any carbon frame come to that.

  • I think both BTwin and Van Rysel are owned by Decathlon but they represent different ends of the market. Van Rysel is meant to be the premium (yet affordable) sub-brand. Similar to how Halfords own Carrera and Boardman brands.

BTwin was dropped as a brand last year and Van Rysel is the replacement.

Yes spot on, back in time there was only the BTwin brand, and that covered all of their bikes, from shopping bikes to top end, and equipped racers.
When I first started out road cycling I was quite close to buying one of their bikes, forget the model now, as this would have been ~2007, but I was over in France and couldn't find the right model in my size whilst I was there, so ended up with a 2nd hand Felt instead, which was probably better to be fair.

Suspect it was maybe 5 years ago or so they decided to create the Van Rysel brand to differentiate between the run of the mill bikes, and the more exotic ones.

As JH says, pretty much exactly how Halfords operate with their two main brands - the less said about apollo the better.

EDIT: Looks to my eye as if the BTwin brand still exists, but they are using it for kids/electric/folding bikes: https://decathlon.co.uk/browse/b/btwin/_/N-yc0hu8

Think Triban might be the new lower tier brand possibly.

  • You can pay €8,750 for a Van Rysel road bike, so I don't think it's necessarily the budget option.

Deffo not budget, but admittedly I have not compared specs like for like on anything in their range versus the competition.

Most manufacturers, currently at least, have a bike in their line-up that is ~15k.

Decathlon's top two brands are Van Rysel, and Rockrider for MTB. They sponsor the Ford-Rockrider XC team....and are on Sram groupsets.....

Van Rysel's been in decathlon for a few years at least, definitely for kit (not sure about bikes - probably not although I have not really looked). I tend to get stuff like base layers from Decathlon as it's less than 5 mins from my house and cheap...

A bit like how they have Quecha for cheaper hiking/outdoor gear and Forclaz for the more serious stuff

Not road but huge MTB DH news; after 16 years with Santa Cruz Syndicate, Greg Minnaar is leaving. (or in MTB media language, Minnaar is off Santa Cruz).

Predictably, this has passed by the cycling media who wouldn't know him from Adam.....

  • This just leaves Specialized returning to Astana from the earlier rumours. We’ll see…

I didn't realise Willier have moved to FDJ! Makes this seem more likely

I'm not convinced that is the best choice for him; especially if he wants to continue to be a multi-discipline rider. Alpecin & Ineos have a proven track record of success in 3 disciplines.....why wouldn't you go to one of them? Unless $$$$$$ is the issue.

Going to Lidl-Trek makes me think the MTB will be dropped, as they have very little history, if any, of their male riders racing XCO.

I'm assuming there's a tie in with Trek Factory Racing XC team, but I guess we'll see in a year

Well you'd think so; but when the Holmgren twins signed for Lidl-Trek, nothing was mentioned by TFR XC.......and similar with Philipsen.

There's not enough money in MTB'ing to make it worthwhile for any young multi-disciplinary athlete.

Pidcock and Van Der Poel only get away with it because they perform on the road, so their teams are prepared to cut them some slack.

Yep, he'll stay riding jnr races for 2024 with Tscherning Cycling Academy, which will allow him to experiment a bit with his development. In '25 he moves straight to WT, but the idea is for him to ride with the dev team as well where he can lead (if he was signed to the dev team he couldn't ride WT races).

I'd assume it's down to Lidl-Trek having other big time Danish riders. He just might feel more at home with them in the team and figure he himself is good enough to swim in any waters (justifiably).
