He did. That was after much lever bashing.

As it was his left lever I wonder if he kept pulling the brake lever to get it on the big ring.
Which I understand doesn’t exist on SRAM cross group sets.

That was a good tussle between the big 2.... until 1/2 way through the last lap. Shame WvA had the flat.

Podium pics do show the difference in stature / status between WvA then MvdP then... quite a long way down... Iserbyt or Pidders or whoever comes 3rd. 😉

Anyone heading to the Clanfield CX this weekend? It's right on my doorstep so going to wander along , definitely for the Wessex League (sunday) and possibly for the Elites on the Saturday.
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

He won 3 World titles on Sram groupsets; he can't have forgotten how they work. You can have a 2x system, but most use 1x, and can be mixed with Sram MTB cassettes if needed.

Power rides. Both in women's and men's. Been in Koksidje many times over the years, but no way was I taking on those dunes.

One of my colleagues is racing in the Wessex league so was going to (it's up the road from me too) but the OH has been ill and the weather is crap, so I won't be now

It’s not been MVP’s season so far. Quite a lot of errors today resulting in a few off’s which might indicate he was having to go very deep to try and stay with Wout.
Similar in the womens Puck and Van Aderan having to try hard to stay with Shirin and hitting the sand in doing so.

Few mistakes creeping in under pressure this season but the back is more of a worry. If it’s only CX and MTB that cause issues with lots of hard efforts on bumpy ground, mud/sand, MVdP might have to consider retirement from those disciplines at this stage of his career.

Classics will prove or disprove the point, but as I said before it seems to me like Wout has taken a big step forward as could be seen at the Tour last year and MvdP hasn't been able to do the same.
The road is where they used to be on a more even level; in CX MvdP has historically been far superior and now he has enormous difficulty ever dropping WVA. Something he used to consistently do.

Obviously the off camber sections are aggravating MvdP's back. I guess it's due to the fact you are twisting your upper body constantly in a bid to keep balance.
But there's something else and the commentators were talking about it a couple of weeks ago: that is the increase in the number of severe turns on courses whereas historically, they weren't so severe.
Apparently, a number of riders have mentioned/complained about them so maybe the course designers/setters need to address this.
It would be an enormous pity if riders have to give up cross because the events potentially present long term physical consequence and they're not willing to risk this and hamper the road campaign.
We all want the best competing against each other.

I think its patently obvious that he's nowhere near top form, and also his skills are slightly rusty; not a surprise when he's spent most of the last 2 years riding on the road - and hasn't kept his eye in with the off-road skills. Even a rider like him needs to keep practising; when you're on top of your skills you can perform them under pressure. He's not on top form, and keeps making errors....When at his best, everything flows; and he makes it look simple.

Repeated seated efforts in mud/sand can't be good for his back, and neither can the amount of races in a short period of time. One wonders if he's being managed properly.....

Makes sense, she's at the front end of Elite races, so why stay in U23 when you've already won that title? Only one rider has won two women's U23 titles.

She's also stepping up to Elite in the MTB World Cups, but can still ride U23 championship races, as Stigger has done for the last few years.

MvdP is saying that due to his back issue he can't put out anywhere near his top power over the course of a race. Therefore he can't dominate WvA as he has previously.

Sorry to hear about your OH and hope she recovers quickly. The weather was indeed absolute trash; lead to a lot of laughs, as well as a lot of grimaces and an awful lot of cleaning.

It's the CX Nationals this weekend; UK is at Westmorland Showground, Milnthorpe.... Doesn't look the most inspiring course, and will likely be a mudfest. Hard to see past Zoe in the women's; should be closer in the men's between last years 1-2.

Transfer news; SD Worx have signed Marie Schreiber, and she will join after the CX season. Another promising U23 youngster going to a top road team.....

Looks more like a gravel course today. One section of deep rideable sand and a couple of opportunities for a Pidcock whip! 😃

Yes, a dry and fast course.....makes a change from all the recent mudfests.

And interesting to see who's got training kms in their legs, and who has recovered better.

MVdP was not going to lose today. Pure determination and skill won out. WVA looked like he had more left in the tank but Van der Poel had the ability to pass in tight turns and hold the lead. Enjoyable course, great atmosphere and another terrific race.

I managed to miss the point where Pidcock suddenly dropped back, did he have an off?

Had a great start but might of overestimated his condition and couldn’t really respond when MVdP upped the pace.
