Joel Suter and Marc Hirschi both non starters today. Wonder if they ran out of bikes for Hirschi?

It seems as though Bahrain and Alpecin are now out of the race. Plus at least 2 riders from Israel-Premier Tech.

A statement is expected later this morning from the race organisation. They must be seriously considering abandoning the race.

    Vlasov is out now

This is like the eve of the 2006 Tour

Going to be carnage in the TdF if Covid takes hold.

This is how Froome wins his 5th Tour, isn't it?

There may also be some reverse thinking as well. Get it now (with no substantial illness) and it will make it less likely to get it again in July.

Those vaccinated and who have knowingly had Covid would possibly be better off catching BA.4/5 now and have 14 days to recover before the TDF start.

I watched a bit of Dr John Campbell vid the other day for the first time in ages and these variants are doubling known case numbers approx every week in USA, it's extreme transmittable.

Hadn't quite appreciated what serious climbs these were today. Long and consistently steep . The last one must have 15km at over 8% before easing off at the top:

The national championships are going to be interesting this year: which WT teams will allow their Tour riders to compete?

This is a long climb. 4 man sprint for the win coming up, then probably nothing major in the group of favourites.

Thomas leads the main group across, it has gaps in it.

How much will he take out of GT on a flat 25k TT?

I think the GC guys will be more aggressive tomorrow. And two climbing days will take it out of him. I'm not convinced he'll get back the 48s he trails Thomas by at the moment

The tour winner could be a bit random

Race is basically won by the guy who didn't get covid ... Bit hyperbolic
