It was a hire car, so a very bad example.

I find Hire Cars have nicely 'loosened' engines, or that they do after I've driven them ;)

How f*cking boring? We'll all become Alexa driven Google clones.

Might be quite handy getting you back from pub. But apart from that, its's going to be dull as ditchwater.
More time for posting on BikeRadar and scrolling through Tinder?

Whatever floats your boat I guess...

You can look forward to sometime in the future where it will be a legal requirement when on the motorway to be auto driven.

I'd love a self driving car - one where you can actually have a kip or read a book rather than sit ready to take back control. I don't mind driving but without driving recklessly it's hard to actually have real fun on a public road. Be nice to just sit back and relax.

Maybe there will be a choice - you can put it in self drive mode or driver controlled.

I'd agree with that. A to B with the least amount of hassle. I hope they don't allow women to program the reversing and parking modes, though.

    Yeah fine for commuting.
However, I don't see the point of everybody commuting in automatically driven cars when the better solution is...
    A train!
No need to find a parking spot.
    No congestion.
    No tolls.
    Sociable.
    You can kip on them.

For the collective and environmental good, if the motorways were subordinated by a decent train/tram network, there wouldn't be a need for this individualism.
Much haulage could be put onto rail.
Take the A75/A77. They are both not fit for purpose serving the ferry link to NI. There's calls to make the A75 a dual carriageway right the way through bonnie Galloway.
But Beeching bloke pulled the railway line up in '64 and I the rail was re-instated, you could put a lot of that HGV traffic on rail, no clogging up roads. We can't keep infinitely widening, 'improving', building roads.

Sorry, but that's the cold hard truth.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    🤣🤣🤣

I resigned myself many years ago to the fact that what will happen is not what I want.
Acceptance is the first step in moving forward. 😉

Where most people live the nature of geometry and physics means not everyone can have a private car.

    1063hp, 2.4 million quid, 1700kg.

The SF90 has A 1000hp, weight 1570kg (bit surprising it weighs less) , kicks off at around 400 thousand quid. Similar hybrid tech as far as I can see, electric motors giving it four-wheel drive. I'm sure aero-dynamically the Merc is better. It will be interesting to see some lap times.

The first full implementation of self-driving cars will be car "trains" on motorways and trunk roads. Possibly not for another generation, but in principle, this hugely increases road capacity. And you can kip on them. The best part is that they aren't sociable.

Looks very similar to the Simca 1100 my Mum had.
I did her the favour of writing it off 3 weeks after I passed my test. 🤣

A train is fine as long as you are going somewhere with a train station nearby. I'm not convinced 'sociable' is a plus point of the railways though. Integrated travel is the really important thing. Rail also needs a lareg increase in capacity if the train is going to take the strain.

    Yeah but... it's f*cking horrible.

...and you do not need power to have fun.
Unless you have easy access to a track, these things are pointless to own.

Yeah. I quite like it in terms of styling, it's subtle. I guess that big fan is sucking it to the ground, so it doesn't need some massive OTT wing.

The main thing you learn in that video is that you can spend hundreds of thousands of pound on a car but you'll still barely get around faster than in a 1 litre hatchback.

It's actually a couple of hundred thousand plus another two million pounds believe it or not. The price of a name and exclusivity.

I guess it could be seen akin to a piece of art which should be an appreciating asset if the F1 is anything to go by.

Don't worry Rick - if you can afford that you can afford another two or three something elses to trundle round in.

I get luxury cars, for sure.

    I get track cars.

I get spending lots of money.

I don't get buying supercars that you never use on the track!

No idea about that video but certainly I've worked with a few people who spent a lot on supercars - first boss had so many Ferraris they'd fly him out to drive around Mugello.

He was shocked when I suggested he drive his own ferraris around tracks here in the UK. He might crash them, apparently. Better to drive someone else's track day car.

Might as well buy a comfy car and have someone drive around your track day car like a radical or something and get your car speed fix that way.

A comfy car? Something sensible I suppose?

Do you you wear an anorak?

Why do ypu think a supercar isn't "comfy"?

Impraticality is the source of youth Rick.

Can't quite understand why people assume they should all do 'what [I] would do in their position'

Let me know when you can afford, as in properly afford one, and get back to me.

If a few million didn't mean much to me and I loved the Mercedes/AMG story, I'd get one.
