Honsinger's perennial slow starts on a fast course where the pace will be relentless in the first 3 laps with nothing to really get the leaders bogged down in, will preclude her from any possible podium. Perhaps a top 10 would be her best result.

For the sport, you'd probably like to see the regular CX riders win the titles - so you see the rainbow jersey all season long.

No outsider is going to win the men's or women's CXWC's.
There's a faint chance Pieters or Van Empel could but only faint.

They'll both be riding the u23 women's race, so it is a very, very faint chance.

Honsinger will benefit from the smaller field at the start, but unless it's heavy mud, I can't see her troubling the podium. I'd have thought Rochette is the best chance of a north American medal in the elite races, but she's an outsider.

quite correct on both counts I'm guessing...

Rochette did alright at Brescon? The snowy World Cup so it might be in her favour if it’s snowy at the weekend.

I think Rochette could be the best North American; fast conditions won't hamper her - she won a World Cup in Iowa when it was pretty fast. And has two WCup podiums this season; Besancon & Val di Sole.

I rewatched the 2017 Elite Women's title race today, thanks to Covid, and I forgot that Rochette was fifth on a snow-covered, thawing course, at a time when she wasn't at all known outside of North America.

I'm going to check her odds for a podium now, as I think she's a strong outside bet, especially when she was right up there at the Fayetteville WC back in the autumn and has, I believe, won on the course previously (in a non-WC race).

Forgot it wasn't a world cup event.

Top man thanks. I’m going to be popular in the house with those two and the Aussie open final.

Yeah, enjoyed it for the result rather than the race itself.

Not really a race for 1st place - exploded up the first climb, and rode away. Joins a small group of British CX World champions.......

I watched it on the BBC and found the commentary interesting.

Now re-read that bbc link and realise they are not showing all races. Not the men's U23 live now, and only Men's Elite tomorrow. Back to the iPad ESplayer app...

Not a fan of this circuit. Too fast and doesn't seem technical enough.

The circuit is only part of the story. That u23 mens race was a great watch, because the riders raced it flat out.

Agreed. Good watch. Now how does that Musical Youth song go again? Oh yeah, pass the Dutchie... 😊

Each to their own I guess. I just don't enjoy the fast hard surfaces. Will probably only bother with the start of the men's tomorrow now, in case it looks good. Even just a section of sand or with a severe camber would have added some interest and skill. On this circuit van Aert would lap the other riders.

Currently cheering on Silvia Persico, hoping she can prevent an all Orange podium....

It's not great, but it's not the worst we've seen in recent years; Bogense & Dubendorf were even worse' flat & featureless. I don't mind it being fast, if it's technical...
The only feature on this course is the longish climb - but apart from that there's nothing technical.
And as we've just seen, the CX specialist Brand just couldn't shake Vos on that course; there was nowhere to make a difference.

And an impressive ride from Persico, who's riding well in recent weeks.

Anyone know what Sven is talking about?

    Also, that’s how to apologise.

Was Vos sucking wheel, riding for herself, in an national team race again?
