Do British Equestrian run talent ID days in schools like British Cycling do (did?) - that's how Lizzie D got into the sport.

The problem there is you can't really quantify talent in equestrian and many other sports the way you can in cycling and rowing in particular
Get them on one of those bucking bronco machines.

BMX makes me laugh, it all looks fine when they're racing but when they finish and sit on the bike it looks like they've stolen them from some little kids at the park. It's a bit like the opposite of seeing flat race jockeys leading out their horses.

Re other road cycling disciplines - I would be more interested in say a 100-150km 2 up TT.

They tend to generate some great stories.

I know precious little about who is taking part, but wondering about watching the 90-120 minutes from last night on GCN+ as thought my 8 year old daughter might find it interesting, and maybe even I will.
Agreed on the bit where they sit on the saddle though :D

There used to be a 4 up TTT of around 100km if my memory is correct. Certainly was / is at the Commonwealth Games as I knew most of the Welsh team in 1994.

    Nice.

I like the drama of a 2 up TT, with the jeopardy and personal anguish if one really can't hang on. That's the kind of emotional, physical turmoil effort I can get on board with for the Olympics.

Yes I used to ride with one of the Seoul GB team when I first got into cycling.

So it turns out there aren’t any real tall Dutch people - some have just cultivated that cliché by standing on tip toes…

Turns out one advantage of being unable to sleep is you get to listen to the BMX final. Absolutely mad sport.

A gold and a silver in the crazy BMX. I wonder if Whyte will target the TdF now?

Disappointing in the rowing - flagship men’s 8 bronze - not the usual high standards.

I don't normally join in with the commentating complaints, but the women's bmx final was quite something.

Just cheering her on rather than commentating?

Just seen that - it was like having a co-commentator on the football from Arsenal fan tv. Shanaze Reade.

R5 said it is the first time since 1980 there hasn't been a GB rowing gold.

Just watched the re-run. Co-commentary was pretty much the worst I have ever heard. It added nothing, but detracted hugely. Shame, but a great ride!

I was listening to Radio Five. The good news about Rob Hatch is that if you miss anything important he handily repeats it for you.

Incredible. If you care about the medal table - GB and Oz are neck-and-neck - that will really not help.

Duncan Scott won another Silver in the mens 200m individual medley. In total he's won two Silvers and a Gold medal.

Fantastic results for Bethany Shriever, Gold and Niek Kimmann Silver.

The rowing is shocking and needs a bloody good shake up the look of it, considering I think it costs around £25,000,0000 in funding.

He was doing the commentary for the BMX with Victoria Pendleton, who apparently once looked down a BMX ramp and had to crawl away. Which tbf is a better quality of punditry than I've heard in some sports recently.

    Big fan, I see.

To be fair, it was a great result for Niek Kimmann.

Worth pointing out that Bethany Shriever didn't get any funding and had to set up a Crowdfunder...
