    Well, despite the high pitched excited tones of CK for most of the afternoon that was rubbish. Excellent ride by WVA but yet again the big showpiece stage brings zero GC action.

    I don't know about zero GC action, a lot of podium contenders are now out of it. But I can't help but feel that Ineos played into Pogacar's hands. It's like they know no other way to race.
    It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

    Cav group was 9.4km down the climb when leader crossed the summit so assuming they descend at the same speed they would have to climb that section at around 12km/h which sounds reasonable.

    If you aren't interested in stage winners, you'll find most stages uninteresting.

    I got into hot water some time back for suggesting that today wouldn't deliver much GC action.
    At least what little GC action we got was rather unexpected.
    More punchy stages please, less monster mountain attrition.

    Surely you need both, the accumulated exhaustion over three weeks is a key factor.

    They should get a camera bike back up the descent to cover the grupetto.

    BBC says the sprinters are expected to make up time on the descent. Why do they think riders at the back will be able to descend faster than the guy who won the stage when they are all knackered, even if they are speed demons on the flat?

    The 💚
    @MarkCavendish
    gruppetto still had 4.8km of climbing to do when
    @WoutvanAert
    took the win in Malaucène.
    They need to average 34.4km/h in the last 26.8km of the stage to survive the time cutoff.

    Time gaps that are being quoted are all over the place. Anything from 35 minutes to 55 on Twitter.

    You lot need more faith in the bus driver calculations. It's fine!

    It's a 15% cut off as the stage was over 37kph average so will be 39' 40" give or take a second (unless I've miscalculated the average speed - 5h 17' 43" for 199km)

    It's over 47 minutes according to the official race website.

    Not sure sending traffic heading towards riders descending at anything up to 100kmh is necessarily the smartest move, no matter how much we'd like to see what's going on.

    The speed is right, so I don't know what you've miscalculated, but 15% of 5h17 is 47 and a bit minutes.

    Ah yes, I'd started typing 47 then looked at my calculator which I'd use to calculate the second from a percentage of a minute. It's about 47'37"

    It was my immediate thought, I'll confess. In the sense of being a cycling fan, rather than someone who posts here, she really does give the impression of being one of us.

    WvA didn't push it on the descent, as he knew he didn't need to. The others made time back on him.
