Wout looked all right with that, just didn't have another kick to take it up again. Philpsen closed quickly then stalled out - started too far back? Colbrelli was miles out of it - 17th?

As good a lead-out as you’ll see. First class.

Cavendish's summary: "an old school routine, run of the mill, like you're reading the cycling magazine, textbook leadout".

Absolutely laid on a plate for him. He wouldn't get that kind of service in a six star hotel. Van Aert will win on Thursday though

WvA deserves something for animating this tour

He did have to chase to get back on about 20km from home when the world champ was trying to split the peloton.

As Millar was saying, Colbrelli panicked with that puncture and went way too hard. Matches etc.

You guys should work in punditry - the viewers would love the over-egging of the competition still remaining haha

    Green jersey:

    1. Cavendish 218 points
    2. Matthews 159 points
    3. Colbrelli 136 points
    4. Philipsen 133 points
    5. Bouhanni 117 points

That's a lot of energy required by Matthews and Colbrelli to pick up intermediate points on the hilly days. Trying to blow him out early on the mountain stages is probably the only hope for them now.

No, it's just the question of whether he can avoid the time cut.

The Andorra stage is a potential banana skin as there's a climb straight from the gun.
Also the Tourmalet/Luz Ardiden stage is only 130kms long, so the cut off will be less.

Yeh totally, appreciate he expended a ton of energy in getting back, and I don't think he even had much help from the cars.

Agreed, though it's not his first rodeo and i think he's climbing fine, else he'd have been out the back with Demare on Sunday.
