    Geraint dropped a minute

Probably not terrible to be a minute back from Kung?

Did the big lads back in the day also ride with 56 and 58 big rings?

It's not that they're spinning out - 90rpm with a a standard 53-11 is 54.6 kph - but having a big front ring means you can keep in the middle of the block at the back which is a straighter chainline and more efficient.
why not keep the standard chainring, lose the big cogs and move the cassette across with spacers? The 11 tooth cog isn't going to see much action with a 60 ring .

Allegedly it also saves energy as the chain doesn't have to flex as much to go around the bigger radius at the cassette end of things. I'm not necessarily convinced, but half of the advantage is in the mind.

If MvdP really doesn't ever train on a TT bike, he could be ridiculous when he does.
