Italy looking really good, 3-0 up against Turkey. Had a bit of luck with the first goal, but have been totally dominant, with 24 shots on goal to Turkey's 1.

admittedly Turkey aren't the best but we're looking v v good.

    confident, strong, fast.....

    28 unbeaten
    78 goals
    7 conceded

I'm still not getting a buzz for this. Probably because I still haven't forgiven the waistcoatwanker for bungling the last world cup. And that he keeps picking Mings.

What I hate about football fans is half of them couldn't keep the ball up for more than ten kicks. Then seem to know every bloody player and ramble on about formation and God know what else. To be a fan you should be able to play the sport or stick to 'eye spy' or something.

What I hate abput cycling fans is that half of the can't make it up the local high street then seem to know every pro rider, call them by their first names if they are british (or Kenyan, or Belgian) and ramble on for ages about every echelon, breakaway, descent, climb, etc. To be a fan you need to meet some pseudo clubbie level of accomplishment or stick to "eye-spy" or something.

Enjoyed the referee giving offside, direct from a corner.

Hmmn, earlier in the commentary I think they said he was one of the main VAR officials for the last WC, including the final.

Could it have been that the Italian player left the field deliberately without permission?.

That would be an offence I think so assistant ref would be correct - agree can't be offside from a corner.

Not seen the incident but this type of thing is why TV should have pundits from an officiating background in addition to players.

They can clarify a lot of rules many players and coaches really don’t understand, let alone the general public.

Moaning about ref decisions in a partisan way is a key pillar in the football fan experience.

That is indeed an offence, but the linesman (and referee) gave offside.

    Doesn’t inspire confidence.

I thought Italy were exceptional - not known many Italy teams keep the ball moving so relentlessly.

No. Football isn’t more important than that.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

BBC glossing over the important piece of information that the game is going ahead at Christian Erikson’s insistence.
    Why?

So ... England. On paper man for man we should be one of the favourites.

But when was the last England performance against a decent - say top 20 - international side where you thought that's the kind of form that could win a tournament?

Fingers crossed something sparks - they hit on a combination that works.

If we are going to get knocked out, let it be sooner rather than later, so that expectations and disappointment can be minimalised. That way the usual alcohol fuelled disorder and ensuing domestic violence may be muted.
The somewhat indifferent public feel towards this tournament may help.

Still blows my mind the Belgians speak English in the national team.
