It's hard to shut the fuck up in a moment such as this

This is a fun watch. Pleased I timed (by chance) my ride to get back in for the final climb.

The ease Pog closed to Thomas was scary but Yates was closing well at the end. Disappointing by Thomas and Bernal in the end to finish behind WVA on a MTF.

Yep. I thought Bernal was back, but maybe not.

Ineos need to start using the wonder supplement.

Kinda hoping Gee takes DB at his word on ' the new style of Grenadiers racing' and YOLO's the last climb to disrupt the Big 3...

    Called it!

    That was fun!

Slightly surprised Bernal's SB performance hasn't transferred to this...

  • That was quality. Really enjoying the GCN app too

Agreed I was surprised to see my drop off particularly as he’d looked so sharp early on in the climb.

Was he dropped or did he just go back for Thomas who has a better TT?

Sivakov was nowhere to be seen either. Surprisingly lacklustre performance from Ineos given that they had their entire team on the front at the foot of the climb. Great to see racing though rather than the "wait until the final 500m and sprint" approach.

That means Nibali was about a minute and half faster today than when he won in 2012. I hope that's in to context how meaningless these timings are.

It is still amazing how this young generation have almost immediately put the previous generation onto the back foot by some distance. Obviously it's a degree of speculation, but can you see Sagan winning anything with the current riders? Ditto Quintana, Thomas, Dumoulin et al. Even Bernal will have a job given the way the new breed can climb as well as him but also put a very strong time trial in.

But of the repeat winners Valverde is 40, Gilbert 38, Froome is injured and Nibali is in his 17th season.

Sagan has only won two monuments, Quintana hasn't been on a GT podium on his last six attempts. They were both supposed to rule the world at the age of 22. The much heralded 'class of 1990' didn't amount to much in the end. (Quintana, Bardet, Dumoulin, Aru, Pinot)

But the question is will this lot surpass the achievements of those born between 1980 and 1985? (Froome, Contador, Nibali, Valverde, Gilbert, Boonen, Cancellara, Cavendish, Schleck, Wiggins, T.Martin etc)

That was, by a huge margin, so much better than the Paris-Nice mountain finish except...............

    Bit hard on Sagan there

Given the time losses yesterday, they had to try and make a race of it. Which they did, and blew it apart. It didn't work but at least they gave it a shot. Pogacar will be buying them all a drink on Tuesday evening I think.

Yes, but I wasn't basing it on his whole career. I'm going more on the monuments where he's was supposed to be the heir to Cancellara/Boonen. Personally, I think the Van rivalry may work in his favour. I'm not writing him off yet.

Ok, so I guess it's time to put this out there. It came up in commentary yesterday and it became quite clear that Mr Kirby hadn't done his homework again, as he pretty much dismissed this in terms of the GC.

So, basically 100kms of flat, followed by 100kms of a saw bladed rollercoaster.

    4 times up this.

    5 times up this.

Plus half a dozen hidden lumps and bumps.
    Good luck!

One minute he was there, though he looked like he was forcing too big a gear, then suddenly he was gone. Finished 10 minutes back in the end. Doesn't bode well for his Giro chances.
