    Bad news and good news.
The bad news is that as predicted it’s Kirby.
The good news is that Dan Lloyd is fit and co commentator.

WVA from Ewan. Great sprinting to get himself into someone else's train when the last Jumbo Visma disappeared with 500m to go.

Not a bad few minutes for Jumbo Visma.

I thought WVA hit the front a little bit too early there. Pretty impressive to hold off a top sprinter like Ewan.

That’s what he said. Or that he wants to see how well he can do anyway. Obviously just fancied winning a World Tour sprint stage for a bit of a warm up.

Honestly, Kirby is so Partridge. "He's such a titanic figure. Yes, I know the Titanic sank, but let's hope he continues sailing for many years."

I contemplated switching to the French commentary for the last 10 kms, but hung on in the hope that Dan Lloyd would manage to cut his flow at some point.
    Sadly, this didn't happen.

Heading South and East into the small hills today, so potentially more interesting than Paris-Nice:

Thanks for this - helps me decide which one to watch whilst I'm supposedly in a review meeting

Looks interesting - couple of nasty climbs up to 30km to go, then a proper climb to finish but not steep. Could be the big 2 vans fighting it out, or attacks late on to break it up.

85kms covered in the first 2 hours.
Looks as if they will just starting the lumpy stuff when we get live coverage. (approx 15 minutes)

I turned TA off as soon as I heard Kirby.

He gets worse and with the increasing number of excellent commentators they are bringing on board - LLoyd, Blythe etc - CK stands out even more as not only ill-informed and unknowledgeable about the sport, but inappropriate on more than one occasion.

He needs the commentators equivalent of the tap on the shoulder and the brown envelope from HR. Wonder how much could be crowd-funded to get GCN / ES never to use him again....

The gap to the breakaway is now coming down very suddenly. Lost 2 minutes is very little time.

Not a lot happened yet but things are starting to pick up.
Meanwhile Kirby is trotting out the same generic, name half the field as potential winners, patter.

I feel sorry for the newly arrived US-GCN subscribers who past over dollars for this doughnut

Carlton did threaten to get his story book out today quite early in the stage.

    All starting to happen now.

Going to be more riders off the front than left in the peloton at this rate.

Really hope it's only a question of time. The classics would be so much more fun when adding him to the current stellar class.

how to confuse yourself - have 2 streams going on different screens, with 1 commentary muted.
Switch second screen from race feed to email, and suddenly you've got Paris Nice commentary over TA pictures on the other one. v weird.
