After all that excitement if came down to those 3 again!

Great finish to the stage. Although not so good for Simon Yates.

If Thomas hadn’t gone for it the explosive boys would have arrived late.
Alaphilippe might have ended up pinching the win from Almeida.
Would have made for an interesting team meal

One of the better stages. Plenty of action and good to see a talented break at least have a chance of making it stick.

I found the Kirby/Lloyd commentary less irritating than the Hatch/Blyth combo. Hatch rarely picks up on his co- commentators comments - probably too busy concentrating on displaying his linguistic skills when not virtue signalling that is

Oh. Do I have to recant because the collective disagrees :)

Although not to do with Tirreno - Adriatico, and whilst I’m on a roll, I might as well say that I enjoyed seeing the competitors using proper bikes rather than the TT stuff in today’s women’s Healthy Ageing tour stage. A very traditional TT course as well - not the most picturesque stage but it’s good to see the TV coverage for these teams

Quite right. I genuinely thought for a second that is exactly what he had done.

I suppose it shows the instinct that the top guys need to have. If I was in his position (making the huge assumption that I had the required skill and fitness) I would have probably held back for a second out of the fear of beating a team-mate and the team would have lost the stage. He obviously didn't worry for a moment about those sort of consequences and got the victory.

I guess Thomas didn't want Almeida to get any seconds on Bernal ahead of the proper climbing. There was nobody going to beat the big three on that sprint.

    Worth a crack

Thanks for this - helps me decide which one to watch whilst I'm supposedly in a review meeting

NINE F***ING HOURS in a Teams workshop. Didn't catch a second.

At least Hatch actually recognises more than 3 riders...

Alaphilippe needs to race to the line before he celebrates!

It's only five races. And for them all to be there it has to be something that is tailored to their characteristics

Flanders 2020 (MVDP) is one . Strade Bianche 2021 (MVDP) is another. Yesterday (JA) and the day before (WVA) are two more. What's the last one? Did MVDP ride MSR last year?

Yes, because otherwise GCN were talking through their collective bottoms. :p
MvDP did ride Milan-San Remo though.

I'm going to reinstate it because it actually was right :)

MVDP and Alaphillippe have been in the same race 11 times. (7 of those also had Van Aert in.)

Of those 11, MVDP won 4, Alaphillippe won 2, Van Aert won 3. Everyone else won two. (Roglic and Pedersen).

Two stages of Tirreno Adriatico 2021, the last two Strade Bianche, RVV 2020, MSR 2020 and Amstel Gold 2019. Seven races.

We're being spoiled by this generation of one day riders.

    Sagan, WvA, MvdP, JA, yikes.

And that's before you get to the Pedersons of this world who ride with intelligence.

Beats the era when Terpstra and GvA were the top riders for flattish one dayers.

WvA to win today, and one of the others to drop out so they aren't all starting tomorrow when they probably aren't winning. Keep the streak going.

    It's a great rivalry already.

Can't see anybody breaking their monopoly on today's route.

It happens. I just looked for races that Alaphilippe and VdP both started and looked to see if van Aert was in them. He must have finished low down (or DNF) in a couple and I missed him

Remarkably, WvA was top 4 in all except Amstel Gold, where he was 58th. Incredible really.

    Also, I love a spreadsheet.

Do you think JA would be a better mountain domestique than WvA if needed?
