Cameron Wurf has made the break. I don't see him doing a Rohan Dennis but then, according to Zest, triathletes are better than pro cyclists and cycling so maybe he'll just solo to the stage win.2

Interestingly, today's stage is subject to a blanket 25% time limit, which I've never seen outside of a time trial. Unless I'm mistaken, that's generous by historical standards.Pross said:This is a bad start for the non-climbers, very fast meaning that time cut is going to be shorter.

56k to the foot of it so about 4.15?0

Sorry, rubbish maths. I look at the screen and went on distance remaining. More like 3.450

Short stage, fast start and then lots of climbs. 25% will be about 45 minutes maybe and you can see riders losing 15 minutes plus on the Angliru alone. It doesn't look like too many have been shed on the early climbs though.notquite6foot said:

Beautiful overhead of the climb. Looked really steep from above. It's nice to see a GT with the autumn colours just creeping in.1

^ Absolutely. The landscapes there are stunning. Another bucket list item added.
Edit: by 'there' I mean the scenery we've been seeing all week.0 -
I’ve done the Alps and Pyrenees with Marmot Tours. Those there who have done the Picos say it is a much better trip. Less iconic, but better.orraloon said:^ Absolutely. The landscapes there are stunning. Another bucket list item added.

I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Oof horrible steep hairpin that. Lucky it's pretty dry.0

A bit of autumn dampness on the roads though as Formolo discovers. Very green for mountain territory too. Amador down too0

Carapaz already down to just Froome and Castro with Wurf dangling just ahead."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

Worst GT squad I've seen them put out since they were created.blazing_saddles said:Carapaz already down to just Froome and Castro with Wurf dangling just ahead.

Froome putting the pressure on, pulled Carapaz clear briefly and forced JV to close.0
-
Red jersey group down to less than 20. Break nearly caught and JV trying to reassert their authority. Froome looked quite impressive for a moment there though.0

So all Movistar achieved was to get Soler dropped, but at least there are only 5 Jumbo left out of about 15 riders."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

Great seeing Froome putting in that effort.
Doubt Carapaz is going to be able to break Roglic today.

Then you will have noted that I miscounted: Jumbo have 6 of them.RichN95. said:Pross said:Red jersey group down to less than 20. Break nearly caught and JV trying to reassert their authority. Froome looked quite impressive for a moment there though.
25 in the GC group. I counted them"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
this climb is crazy"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0

I was 5 minutes out with the start.
Now 12.5kms that will take about 45 minutes."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
