Should Chris Froome swallow his pride and retire?

At the point of retirement (I'm not calling it anytime soon tbh) I wonder what he'll do next? With a lack of historic knowledge and his quiet demeanour, I cant see a pundit or public facing career beckoning. He doesn't seem the type to go into a team/DS role.
I reckon it'll be something fairly removed from the sport?

I could imagine him buying a vineyard or something along those lines.
Sounds like a good way of losing money

It's horrible to see Froome struggle like this, particularly so early in the race. I guess the further he falls behind though the more likely he will be allowed to ride away should he attack on a stage. So perhaps he is planning one big stage to take a final win (well, first since the team name) in ineos colours.

Judging by todays performance i dont think so, this years edition straight into the mountains from the off was perhaps not the best race to put him in.

Dude, that would be the most efficiently run vineyard in the world!

    Seems short odds currently IMO.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Probably. But it's only a tenner.

Bernal also looked like shit at the TdF. Yet people don’t write Bernal off.

Give Froome a chance next year how he will do.

Bernal is young and hasn't had a potentially career ending crash.

People didn't care when Froome won the Giro, they certainly won't if Tao wins it

I'd think Marcus Rashford is nailed on if it's a public vote

You’re a mug if you’re getting anything shorter than 1/100 on anyone who isn’t Rashford

I wanted some each way action

I think they'll give Rashford a special award rather than put him up for the main one.

I'd chuck in one of the English players in the Liverpool squad, possibly Henderson, as an outsider. Bound to be a cricketer in there somewhere (Anderson or Broad) and a female footballer.

Any thoughts that Froome might have a hit out as a final IG rider in the next week and a half? Or will he play team-player instead? Trying and failing might not look great, but having a tilt at a top-end finish in the TT might appeal?

Think he is savvy about his condition. Don't think he will try a Giro 2018 stage 19 effort if it's bound to fail.

He has the get out of jail card this season of still being on his recovery from the crash.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a go for a stage win if the chance arises though I suppose Carapaz's situation may dictate that. Anything he does in this race is a free hit really.

I mean you could read it back?

Some people saying yes and he's as bad as Cavendish now. I disagree with that and I think most reasonable people do too, it's his first season after that crash and it's been a weird one, we'll know more based on next season.

Would be really interesting to hear how he's really feeling about this race. Is he just committed to the team role, and actually finding it "comfortably hard" to do his domestique role at the moment, or was he secretly hoping that his recovery would come good and he'd be closer to the front? Or perhaps he's finding each day really tough and whilst he's mentally strong enough to battle through and play his role, it's coming as a rude awakening how far off the front he really is.

Whichever it is, it's better that he's riding now to learn in advance of next year and if he is truly "done" because of a combination of the accident and the passing of time (and the development of a new generation of winners) I'm sure he'll be the first to say so.

I'm sure that's at least partly true. But IG wouldn't have put him on the roster if it was soley to benefit ISUN. Whether they just want "publicity" out of him, or think he can operate as a Rohan Dennis style 3rd week domestique though, who knows?

I think they expected him to be better. It's hard not to trust in the person who has won so much in your team; and won in various ways.

It is also hard to bench your 4-5 million Euro rider for all 3 GT's.
