If every team started doing it for attention?
Then it wouldn't make a change, would it?

Surely the idea then would constantly be more different and outlandish. Anyway, they have got what they want by emulating a catwalk.

I’m not sure it’s so anti traditionalist. I get vibes of the old Z jersey from it, and Nick Craig had the duck helmet in the 90’s.
I don’t like it as it’s so messy, but hey, good PR and well executed.

The Palace aesthetic is super 90s isn't it, so that makes a lot of sense. I think it's kinda cool. Just if there were a couple less logos on there, which is why I am hoping there might be some slightly more muted Rapha x Palace bits with the release on Monday.

Ultimately the jersey reminds me of the time Homer Simpson designed a car. Any one element of it may make sense in isolation but together they create a godawful mess.

Meh, fashions go in cycles. Peloton has been largely in a 'tasteful' phase for the past decade and a half, so it makes sense to drift the other way.

'Drift'? That's not a drift the other way, that's a headlong run away from tasteful :D

Fair play to them though, it's income for them and it's got everyone talking about them. Job done.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

    No No, from Vaughters.

I'll await seeing it 'in action' as it were as that can make a difference I think. Bahrain-Merida being a recent example...

They've entered the realm of the 'boxed for life' sneaker heads with this. I'm predicting a website crash on Monday morning and everything cleaned out. Then it'll either be on eBay or placed in the wardrobe next to the Futura2000 Maharishis.

Not sure if the RCC members are getting first dibs tomorrow. I've heard they might be...

    Mountain Top Finish

    Thanks Bob!

I hadn't looked here since yesterday, was a bit surprised to see two complete pages of posts since then...all about jersies! :o

Anyway, I am hoping to be at the MTF...and also the climb up il muro di Guardiagrele, which should be amazing!

One of the symptoms of Covid19 is a loss of taste, so should be EF be excluded from the Giro due to showing symptoms.

All teams finally confirmed barring last minute issues.

    http://www.cyclingfever.com/editie.html?detp=view&_ap=startlijst&editie_idd=Mjk4MDc=

It looks a very weak field below the obvious suspects. Cycling News have even resorted to including Zakarin in their list of 10 riders to watch for GC. It's that weak. FWIW, I'd rate the favourites:

    ***** Thomas
    ****
    *** Fuglsang, Kruiswijk
    ** Vlasov, Nibali, Yates
    * Lopez

Astana look to have by far the strongest team but not the strongest rider. If they try and dominate in a Team Sky / J-V style,, that will play into Thomas's hands so they need to attack him. It hopefully should lead to some entertaining racing.

Edited to include the overlooked Yates.

I think he's better than that. His TT isn't *that* bad and he should be better than Thomas on the climbs.

He lost 22 seconds in 10 km to Thomas at T-A. With 65 km of ITT at the Giro, that equates to almost two and a half minutes. I'm also unconvinced that he will out-climb Thomas over a three week race.

That 10KM was pan flat out and back, plus Thomas was all in to try and overhaul Yates, whereas Yates could presumably ride 'hard but controlled' to take the GC.
SY did have a shocker on the TT in last Giro but he's also ridden pretty well in some other, more rolling ones.

Not really sure how a middle class cycling attire company and a skateboarding company match up but what do I know.

They’re far from the brand they were a decade ago. They move on, break new ground, adapt. Motram isn’t daft, and Rapha in the Far East and the US is a different beast. I have no doubt this stuff will be sold out within hours of going on sale on Monday.

As I said before, today everyone is talking about Rapha, EF and over where the cool folk live...Palace. They’ve nailed it.

I might actually buy some of it if it's a bit more muted than the team jersey.

According to that BR article "Palace Skateboards teams up with Rapha and Cannondale for 2020’s most millennial collab" - I am pretty millenial...
I’d definitely buy the Colombian National jersey. It looks great!

That's the Ecuador one - Jonathan Caicedo getting Van Avermaet style use out of the jersey - he's been National Champ since June 2019.....

Higuita is Colombian champ so will presumably have something similar.

I don't think anyone's mentioned S4C on this thread - they're also doing live coverage every day at 1pm (in Welsh obviously*). Unless you're stuck with Freeview, you don't even have to be in Wales to watch their content.

G will be the big draw for their audience, but even without him they also covered it last year.

[* Well, they did for the 2018 Tour IIRC]
