  • Given how close the GT's are now because of the 'virus' shenanigans. 160miles seems a bit far considering, I'm surprised they didn't knock one or two laps of the route.

It's the World Championships, the distance is essential to separate the wheat from the chaff.

BBC, via the Federation. Berhane had visa issues so couldn't get into Italy. Not sure why Arndt is a DNS

Covid for Lutsenko, denied visa for Berhane.

Arndt? Not a course for him anyways #Imola2020 https://t.co/ezy0VJRRYO

Always struggle to identify riders in the Worlds with the National jersey on.

  • Thank you

    Any idea of finishing times?
  • It's due on the BBC until half 4, so I would imagine tuning in around 3pm you will see the last 50k or so

Weather report suggests rain possible from around 2pm CET, heavy rain between 3 and 4 then staying damp & drizzly after, wind picking up to 4 or 5 m/s (15-18km/hr) from NE then weakening again. So a bit of headwind on the return half of the loop & finish, but nothing major.

For the record, this Norwegian weather site is worth bookmarking. I've seen people in Denmark using it for local weather where it's reputation is more accurate than the official Danish met office.

I often wonder what percentage of the field you'd see in a similar world tour race? Always seems to be loads of riders I've never heard of in the world's ( for obvious reasons)

    Ugh.

He should be grateful. The quiet bit where nothing happens gives him a job every July, so he can wang on about kit or aerodynamics.

Here's a timewasting exercise for you, the startlist ordered by career points (think it's their own points system, not UCI, but it'll do). Find the first rider from the top you don't know. Find the first rider from the bottom you know who isn't e.g. a youth from a country that you follow (e.g. GB and DK for me - I know of loads of the young riders there)

    https://www.procyclingstats.com/race.php?id=248588&p=startlist&s=riders-ranked&type=10001&filter=Filter

    For me:
    53 Arashiro Yukiya Japan 2647
This is crazy, he's got a 16 year career behind him and he's been world tour for 6 of them and pro-conti with Europcar for loads more. He's ridden TWELVE GTs. Zubeldia has nothing on him, he's a serious ninja.

From the other end, it's a bit trickier. I could count

    154 Healy Ben Ireland 275
But he rode for Wiggins le Col, so he's almost in that "home grown youngsters" group
    Then there's

128 Honoré Mikkel Frølich Denmark 670
He's in the homegrown youngsters group, but I think I might have heard of him anyway

    123 Pedersen Casper Denmark 736
    - again I'd probably have got to know him anyway, as Bol's lead out man in the Tour

    121 Mullen Ryan Ireland 784
    - Irish is pretty much British really, isn't it ;)

The first I would genuinely be certain I know is:
116 Powless Neilson United States 847
Again, that's probably because I was following Tao while he was at Axeon-Bergman though

Should I know Kangart the Estonian at 32?

Probably. He's got some decent results, a few GT top 15s (best an 11th), got in a fair few breaks, decent TT (top tens in a few Giro TTs and a worlds), 15 top tens in WT stages, 4 stage wins HC or higher, 6 GC top tens at HC or higher, won Abu Dhabi. He's fairly visible, though not in the elite proven winners group. The sort of rider that's good value for an each way or top ten bet if he looks in form.
