The big shock is not how good Jumbo have been (though I did question their strength & tactics before today, mea culpa), but how ineffective Ineos have been. Sivakov doesn't appear to have recovered from his crash on day 1, which now looks like he should have abandoned after, so he gets a pass, but Amador and Carapaz look to have contributed very little. I know they were late picks but it's not worked at all. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0

JV just took the Ineos tactics and amped them up. A team of high calibre riders setting a tempo that people can only follow. Same 5hit different shovel.1

I don't think JV are any stronger than Ineos/Sky have been in some other years - they're not hideously freakish, just stronger than anyone else. I'm also not sure that you can lay the blame at the foot of Ineos' domestiques, either - plenty of other riders are doing better than Bernal with less support than he's received.
On Bernal, fwiw, I'm in the group that thinks he's either crocked or ill - and conceivably both. He's not at all in his best form.2 -
Bernal is not ill. According to his own words, he did his best power numbers ever yesterday when he got dropped. But the others are just much stronger than him (Bernal said something like this along these lines).Lanterne_Rogue said:I don't think JV are any stronger than Ineos/Sky have been in some other years - they're not hideously freakish, just stronger than anyone else. His best power numbers ever is not going to lose him seven minutes in a single stage.0

Agree. I reckon something's up and not just his will cracking.Lanterne_Rogue said:His best power numbers ever is not going to lose him seven minutes in a single stage.

Riders are always saying how great their numbers are. You should never believe it.Twitter: @RichN951 -
Valverde though...👍. Everyone focusing on the young UN's. They are pulling their Dad up 😁😁2

It is a possibility that Bernal is a one hit wonder, like all other south American riders... in recent times Quintana of course, but going back there have been many who only lasted a season or two at the very top.left the forum March 20231

Bernal probably overcooked it yesterday and he paid the price for it today.Lanterne_Rogue said:His best power numbers ever is not going to lose him seven minutes in a single stage.
There is a reason why Roglic was not riding on his limit unlike Bernal, as he was smart enough to conserve his legs for a multi week stage race.
If Bernal would have simply accepted defeat yesterday rather than trying to keep up with Roglic who is simply in a different class them him, his legs would have been in greater shape today.

I'm not sure why anyone would think Bernal overcooked it yesterday on a classics type stage.
I don't think you lose 7 minutes on a stage where Uran, Porte and Valverde etc come in with the main group unless there's something wrong.G Martin finished ahead of him, and he had to chase back on after a bike change at the foot of the climbWarning No formatter is installed for the format4 -
He’s got to be ill, otherwise he really will be a one hit wonder.No_Ta_Doctor said:I'm not sure why anyone would think Bernal overcooked it yesterday on a classics type stage.

Porridge legs as my grandpa used to say. That’s the “im empty” look - can’t even get out of breathe.No_Ta_Doctor said:I'm not sure why anyone would think Bernal overcooked it yesterday on a classics type stage.

I got very excited when he was dropped but yeah, all the suggestions Jumbo were patchy - well they all fired today.
You’d imagine putting Bernal to bed also incentivised Jumbo to really nail it.
WvA dropping two Colombian GT winners, oof.
Shame poj is so far behind. Would have been fun. He’s our best hope for a decent race.

All those pretty colours in a line, not moving.....
Uran now in 3rd and Enric Mas in 8th.
The competition for the Haimar Zubledia award more interesting than the GC battle.
Not often you can say that.

Sorry, I mean the big effort Bernal did in Stage 13, not stage 14 of yesterday :P
Last year, Bernal waited until the last week for these types of efforts.0 -

I don't believe either. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Maybe Bernal should be renamed Samson, he chopped his hair off and hasn't been the same since.0

Pretty much what i expected. You can't blame JV and Roglic for taking the safe option to play to the team's strength and grind out a win for their first TdF. Especially when the rest of the field is no real threat. Disappointed in Pogacar though but I guess there's still time to pull something out (hopefully) and make a race of it. This procession is beginning to look like F1!
I've never been impressed by Bernal and I don't think he is a good fit for Sky/Ineos. Lucky to win last year i think and the team would have still won with Thomas if they had just put the team behind him. Following that they would have been in a much better position this year as well with Thomas at the head. Personally I would let Bernal go.1 -
This is the first time Bernal has come in as the favorite and team leader. Last year the team had Thomas to take the pressure off Bernal1

A bit harsh, he was excellent in support of Thomas in 2018.hypster said:
