If I was king for a day I’d ban all non-full fat milk except for medical reasons and subsidise Guernsey milk.

Dieticians arguing about fat is quite amusing. 40 years of definitive thought without much in the way of actual research supporting it.
Surely the problem is not the lack of evidence, but that you can easily find plenty of evidence to support your view, whatever your view is.

    That's the same thing.

At least dieticians have the good grace not to call themselves "dietists" and pretend it's a science.

No, it happens even on more premium UK bacon, like Denhay... more on the back than the streaky

Only on wet cured, not dry cured.Your "Wiltshire Cure" Denhay bacon in a green pack will have that, but I'm willing to bet the Denhay "Unsmoked/Smoked Back Bacon" (blue or maroon packs) won't.

Ah... you are right you are... I bought the green pack once and was disappointed because of that... thatnks for clarifying!

but if we could go from consuming 70kg per person per year to say 10kg, which means a good portion once a week, that would probably be sustainable

It's mostly lack of evidence. There was an excellent article in the Guardian about this a few years ago. In the [70s] someone did some research which demonstrated that countries with a high fat diet had high levels of heart disease. It was also discovered that people dying of heart disease had really fatty arteries. All this gave rise to the public information campaigns that fat is bad for you, so skimmed milk etc. were promoted.

However, it turns out that the initial research intentionally excluded France which has a high fat diet, but much lower incidence of heart disease, and that the initial research was pretty poor all things considered.

Many dieticians having spent decades building theories on the basis that fat is bad, weren't so keen to accept this, but have been unable to provide any proof to support their theories.

There is evidence that since fat consumption declined, consumption of carbs has increased. There is also a school of thought that fat is more satiating and hence people are less likely to get fat eating fat.

So the jury is out, and all the public information has now pivoted towards sugar being bad, because "empty calories" etc.

I think just less meat in people's diet would be preferable.

You're not gonna win the world over preaching vegetarianism, but most people in the West eat far too much meat and as a result often neglect the rest of the food spectrum, just from a health perspective.

But if you preach less meat, it's easier to get them onto eating more healthily, and then you get the added benefit of a reduction in meat consumption.

I would say I'm very keen on meat but then I look at what weight I'm eating a day vs others and i'm shocked at how much people eat.

Then again, that's probably why i'm a BMI of 19.5

Yeah... it's just a question of whether to educate to a more plant based diet or whether to impose "meat quotas" on production and imports... maybe a combination of the two

Yeah if it's fat shaming it's not meant to be.

But let's be clear, being overweight is bad for your health on so many levels.

I wouldn't say 'be ashamed of your weight' because that doesn't help, but I would say 'work on ways that help you achieve a healthier weight'.

I know but bacon is the best type of meat. I mean, if you wanted to convert a vegetarian back to being an omnivore that's very probably what you'd use to do it.
