James hunt was better than Schumacher.
Freddy Mercury was a bigger showman, then again so was Gary Glitter.

You appear to be missing the point of the thread.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Sheene wasn't even the new ever British bike racer let alone better than Rossi.

Hunt was just a waste of a talent who can't even be mentioned in the same breath as Michael Schuhmacher who was definitely one of the all time greats, just not THE all time best IMHO.

Keith Moon, whatever else he was great at, couldn't even keep time.

Rush, the Ron Howard film on the Lauda/Hunt rivalry is on Iplayer atm. I've no interest in F1 but it was quite good.

If you want to see pure racing then watch Senna.
As we are going popular instead of unpopular. Rush was good though.

Pete Townsend is quoted as saying Moon couldn't keep the beat so it's not just me saying it.

Disc brakes and 12 speed cassettes are a step too far for road bikes.

    Is that an opinion?

Well, at least you are sticking to the brief of the thread as this has been proved to be unpopular

I'm pee'd off with people going on about their mental issues. That's the OT part.

Yes, mental issues are real and I have every sympathy for that, but I am constantly listening to people moaning about their mental health because their lives are slightly unfulfilling; i.e. "I'm bored, how can I cope?"

I would expand this to people who define themselves by a moderate or common health issue. Usually the most unusual or significant health issue they actually have is narcissism.

Pete admitted that he did not like Moon's drumming but that the poor timing only came towards Moon's end.

Hmmm not so sure. Even those drummers who like Moon and cite him as an influence recognise that he wasn't the traditional style of drummer who's main purpose was to keep time. The drugs just made him worse to the point where Townsend wanted to replace him before he died. Townsend reportedly found Entwistles bass playing similarly quirky and claims that he had to keep the rhythm because the rhythm section couldn't.
Anyway, regardless of the intricacies of the debate in the spirit of the thread it's clearly an unpopular opinion 😀

Single speed bikes are utterly pointless. Just ride your normal bike and don't change gear.

My old man used to reckon that fixed wheel bikes were the best way to get properly fit as a cyclist because you were forced to pedal constantly pedal and couldn't bail out on climbs and use an easier gear. Not sure where flip flop hubs fit into this though as it loses some of the design simplicity, adds weight and obviously allows free wheeling which is surely cheating (maybe a debate for another thread?). As an aside he used to be mates with Jeff Banks in the 50s when they were in Catford Cycling Club. I am currently wearing Jeff Banks boxers funnily enough. I don't know Jeff Banks though 😁

True, I did try one belonging to a mate and they're hard work on gradients. But then again I'm not uber fit cycling wise.

Small world though, I only live a couple of miles from Catford even if I do try to avoid as far as possible

    In defence of fixies...

When j got back recently I discovered that the place I'd left my old fixie, turbo trainer and other metallic goods was not as dry and warm as I'd thought and so most of them were now a ball of rust.

Pretty much everything is ruined but the fixie took a new chain, and a bit of wire brushing on the hub nut threads to be restored to full function...

'Woke' is just this generation looking at the previous generation and deciding which parts of popular culture and ways of life they don't want to keep

Previous generations did the same. They called it the 'looney left' and 'pc gone mad', but progress continued and we look back amazed at the attitudes which prevailed scarcely believing what passed for comedy, what views were mainstream and that what seems normal now could ever have been controversial

Future generations will do the same.

That's life, you're just of the previous generation now so it feels uncomfortable.
