She was doing a podcast before and the BBC now seem to think podcasting is an edgy education in media that will appeal to the youth. Ebony or Isa would be better alternatives and who was the one with the fantastic Caribbean accent? I could listen to her all day.

    Michael Holding?

Was talking female. Possibly Donna Symmonds.

In terms of Caribbean accents, Tony Cozier's was superb. It came as a real surprise when I first saw him and learned he was white. It goes to show the mental image a voice can conjure.

I assumed it was a joke...

Thought so but you never know on here and had wondered when typing my original post if I was being clear to be honest

Bairstow and Stokes possibly out of the next game with injuries. Billings drafted in possibl means no Buttler behind the stumps too

I forget who it was this morning on TMS that was comparing Buttler to Gilchrist saying that with Gilchrist you got a match winning batsman who could also keep well. With Buttler at the moment you get neither.

Whilst we are on the subject of waking up to TMS can I say that Alex Hartley is an embarassment and a stunning indictment of the UK education system. How can a cricketer have no understanding of % or averages?

She is awful, a genuine example of 'equality over quality'.

She actually said 'wake up with a bit of wood' in commentary this morning.

She doesn't exactly have a radio voice either.

I heard that this morning. There was a very noticeable silence after it. Her "No Balls" podcast is full of "Bantz" and occasionally insightful. Some of their chats about womens sport have been quite insightful. It's a shame that Isa, Ebony and Ali Mitchell have all gone onto other things for this series. Alex Hartley seems to be the last female cricketer currently on the payroll so has been shoehorned in for the last 2 matches.
  • I heard this on the radio, and after the replay the commentator couldn't believe it had initially been given out before being reviewed - but even an umpire's brain is going to be scrambled by this.

Should be classified as the worst LBW decision in history.

I can understand why he gave it, bat way out of the picture, a definite deviation of the ball and a noise too. Not a great decision but understandable in trying to join the dots

Really? I can't believe he gave it out. Clearly it's nowhere near the bat or pad, so how can it be given out.

It's not like it's the first time a ball has ever hit the stumps without dislodging a bail.

Think it's Jim Maxwell "Has that hit the pad just in front of off stump? They will challenge this of course, because why not?"

Then "I'm not sure how Paul Reiffel gave it out" after the replay.

    30-0.

England's highest opening partnership in the series.

Australia's is only 57, so that might be in sight.

    From Aggers:
"England do have a chance to save this game and people will be expecting them to."

Nope. We're expecting them to collapse and be all out by lunch. We hope they can save the game. We've all seen how well hope has done this series ;)

If the players expected to save this game then Leach would not have played that shot.

Watched day 3 highlights on the Beeb and it was painful bar Bairstow's effort. He showed presence and confidence.
Why was Root, new to the crease flashing at a slightly wide ball?
I know the wicket is bobbling up but some of the balls that got through to the stumps went through gaping holes left by the batsman.
I can only imagine a Viv Richard's/Tendulkar hooking Boland and Cummings out of the park.
Not a single late cut to the high ball for love nor money either.

    Blimey.
Didn't expect to still be batting when I dragged myself out of bed. Really didn't expect them to survive the last couple of overs.

Still not great, but a bit of fight at least.

There was no point during the final day when I thought England would get a draw including the final over.

A bit of fight but you have to question why the Aussies batted on so long on day 4. They wouldn't have given England that opportunity in previous years.

Whilst the England batting has rightfully been criticised the bowling really needs looking at too. How many times have England taken all 10 wickets so far in the series?

They all work on the same formula of 100 runs per session plus 100 so they will have seen their declaration as adventurous

    Especially the final over!

I felt fairly relaxed about it, it was Smith bowling on a wicket not doing much.

Weirdly I was more relaxed about Lyon bowling than Smith. It's the part timers that can (and nearly did) undo you.

The one good thing about the Umpires not allowing the use of the Quicks was the last 3 overs went a bit quicker :)

Did enough for him to take a wicket in the previous over.

Pleased we avoided 5-0 but hard to take much solace from a match in which the opponents declared twice

There 384 overs in the match which means 60 overs were lost due to rain (or slow bowling), so England really needed the weather to claim a draw.

His first in 5 years according to the TMS statto. I just didn't feel he was suddenly unplayable after being drafted in as a stop gap.

In a series with little to cheer about, Broad getting Warner out for the 14th time made me smile.

Hadn't even realised the final test had started. Looks like it will be wrapped up in 3 days.
  • What was that from Stokes?
