Looking forward to the finale of this year's tour when it turns out the conspiracy theorists were right, there was no crash, and Alaphilippe rips off his mask to reveal he was Chris Froome all along.

I'd like to know what's up with Kwiatkowski.
That wasn't a day to have off and to get dropped so early....
Possibly rested him for tomorrow. He was only ever going to get halfway up the Tourmalet. But more likely off form.

Pinot a bit surprised to see Ala at the finish. Seems to think he can outride him in the mts

If this had a normal level of TT kms this race would be mega interesting.

    Kruijswijk though. Woof.

ITV seem to be writing Thomas off and talking about it possibly being Alaphillipe v Pinot for yellow and even whether Bernal should become their leader yet Thomas is still in second place.
    thomas could still win

stay consistent/improve a bit. and alaphillipe cracks...which looks possible... he nearly let the wheels go at one point. he could do a simon yates.

even he doesn't know does he?

if alaphillipe cracks thomas inherits as long as he doesn't haemorrhage time to pinot.

    Maybe he just blew up!
Maybe Ineos were thinking he wouldn't be needed?
Either way Ineos are not the same team without Froome, G benefited from their dominance last year when CF had his early crash. This year they haven't got the depth and G is not a rider who the others fear.

I’m starting to think Kruijswijk is going to win.

A mediocre rider suddenly becomes an incredible GC rider dropping some of the world's best climbers???
    Quite frankly it stinks.

This is interesting, because Thomas won last year when Froome was still a threat and a very real contender all the way until that final mountain stage...

But the tt he won suited him
The bunch spring he won earlier in the season against the sprinting big boys suited him
The ardennes classics all suited him
    The tourmalet suits him

Thomas appears mentally beaten already and it looks like inoes had planned for a froome win and now are just hedging their bets

If it's going to be a Frenchman I'd like to see Pinot win it. Would be uncomfortable seeing Alan Phillip win it and still think he'll crack.

I wouldn’t say mediocre. He is a great one day racer but he certainly isn’t a GC man. It would be like Gilbert suddenly leading the GC. Very suspect. Alaphilipe vs VDP for the tour next year.

Maybe, just maybe, he's actually a special talent who's adjusted his training and lost some weight? It sounds similar to a lot of the accusations thrown at Sky's winners. I am surprised at Alaphilippe, and if he's still at the front after 180km tomorrow, then I will understand some scepticism. But maybe he's just a great rider who's got everything right and focused differently.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Alaphilippe performing the way he has is much less of a surprise (by an order of magnitude) than the sudden emergence of Froome from nowhere.

Anyway some tasty cow action on Tourmalet earlier!

Personally I hate those motorbikes on climbs, and then they all stand hogging the col sign to have their photos taken as if they've actually achieved anything riding a motor powered vehicle along a road, so go cows!
