Must admit I was thinking he would be in 5th group or something. No mention at all in commentary. So very pleased when top 10 shown.
    Bardet was a shock too.

Bennett must have been well chuffed crossing the line after losing all that time with his team mates celebrating the stage win as they escorted him. All in for their Dutch GC rider and stage hopeful!

As I said it will be an interesting Jumbo dinner table tonight.

Been away for a few days and not caught up with the details of the stage yet - can someone explain this in simple terms?

    GC after Stage 10

    1 JULIAN ALAPHILIPPE 43H 27' 15''
    2 GERAINT THOMAS @ 01' 12''
    3 EGAN BERNAL @ 01' 16''
    4 STEVEN KRUIJSWIJK @ 01' 27''
    5 EMANUEL BUCHMANN @ 01' 45''
    6 ENRIC MAS @ 01' 46''
    7 ADAM YATES @ 01' 47''
    8 NAIRO QUINTANA @ 02' 04''
    9 DANIEL MARTIN @ 02' 09''
    10 GIULIO CICCONE @ 02' 32''

There's been some good racing already plus the TTT but those gaps are looking nice and close still with at the end of the first period. For some reason I though Kruijswijk had lost time a few stages ago but is doing well there.

There were echelons today that apparently started when Jumbo had sent Bennett back to get drinks (he was their best placed GC rider going into the stage). He ended up losing about 2:30 coming in in the third group whilst Kruijswijk made the front group and WvA won the stage, as Bennett eventually crossed the line looking like his GC hopes have all but gone the team mates with him were celebrating the stage win which must have been nice for him!

Bennett was never a serious GC nomination by Jumbo. He was only put forward as a gesture to the current fad to name multiple team leaders. He's done nothing all year.

I'll curse the rest of the race by saying this is the best 'first half' I can remember (although I've only been following daily for last few years).

He was involved in pulling for the lead-outs earlier in the race. Nevertheless, he was fourth this morning so not someone to burn unnecessarily.

I think if I were Jumbo I'd want a back up to Kruijswijk though.

EDIT even if he isn't your main GC man is he really the one you would send back to the car?

    You are joking, right?
It's about having another card to play in the mountains.
At 3-30pm Jumbo had an ace up their sleeve. Less than an hour later they find they only have a joker.

I'm trying to view it on my phone. If what it looks like, is happening, then that is not good. Is anyone able to make it out clearly?

Whoever knocks him off the road has their right foot out of the cleat, so may not be as intentional as it looks

Do you think race is more interesting because Fru and Du could not take part?

I don't think it would be much different at this stage, having Dumoulin there may have added even more uncertainty to the outcome and if Froome was there I guess it would just mean that Ineos would have 3 cards available at this stage. I think it's more a case that despite there being some good racing no-one has really shipped a load of time yet out of the favourites (other than Bardet). The TTT didn't cost anyone too greatly and Pinot managed to gain a few second more than he lost. The organisers should be congratulated for getting a good first week together as they are usually blamed for not having such an exciting race as the Giro (which had a dire first week this year).

It feels to me like there have been fewer pure sprinters stages, so a bit more variety for a first week?

I don't think the organisers can take much credit for todays stage. If it wasn't for the wind it probably would have been just another sprint stage with the breakaway getting gobbled up inside the last 3 km.

It has been an entertaining first week though and definitely some route variety has helped shake things up a bit. Nice to see some actual GC racing.

    He was never an ace.

The attempt to follow Bardet yesterday showed that somewhat. None of that trio were anything other than a minor inconvenience for GC hopefuls/Ineos doms

Given Bennett's propensity for speaking his mind in interviews I would love to see what he had to say after todays stage

Nothing to do with them. There's not be much in the way of typical GC stages. The organisers have, for once, largely ignored Western France, which is very flat and chosen stages according to what is likely to produce good racing rather than places with the most cash or where they're friends with the mayor

...and a fourth stage win. Their race is already an A Grade success.

Baguil clipped Alaphilippe's wheel and lost his balance and knocked into Landa.

Both ITV and EuroSport were on ad break when the decisive move was made, coverage concentrated on the EF1 position while they tried to get a camera bike back up to the front of the race. I think it was a case of a wheel being lost and suddenly there was a gap that nobody expected.

its was unusual in how the different teams had a go but failed then got caught out.

    pinots tour pretty much done
