    Really?
Looked clear to me that he was brought down.

i didn't see him come into contact with anyone except moscon

There was an EF (Michael Woods he said) on the deck in front of him, over which he performed his graceful dismount.

Woods took out Moscon, Moscon's bike got tangled into Geraint's and he somehow managed to jump clear and land on his feet. Took a while to free his bike from the wreck of Moscon's though.

looks like g took himself out?

    Huh?

Woods crashes, Moscon right behind piles in and Geraint has nowhere to go.
He's a crash magnet certainly, but he's not at fault very often to be fair.

    Seems fine anyhow.
I wonder how many bullets Pinot fired today?
With Bardet off colour, he is going to find the weight of expectation from a whole nation heaped upon his shoulders.

Woods completely out of the GC, unless he arrived on a team mates bike.
    Looks to have finished @ 14' 22''

Any news on Moscon? He went down pretty hard and Ineos could do without losing him.

    Was there... My bad

Thomas talking Alaphilippe up as a serious rival. Not really, surely? Can, at a push, see him doing a Voekler and hanging near the podium but winning the whole thing, just don't see it.

Also, totally understandable that Thomas wasn't able to go with Alaphilippe and Pinot given that he had only just got back on after a hard chase, but interesting that Bernal didn't mark them. Not able to do so or tactics?

More marginal gains there from Ineos, I see. Riding Bromptons so they can use the spare space in the team van for more comfy mattresses. Very clever.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I hope the scrutineers on Twitter got all the closeups they needed of Thomas's bike

I did a little bit of parenting/indoctrination today. By the end of the stage both teeny tiny haggises were cheering for Thomas de Gendt. Very glad to see it go that way, after an unusually tight and thrilling finale.

The ineos guy who stayed upright didn't look like Thomas to me.

It was Moscon. Thomas fell and landed on Moscon's bike, which presumably broke his fall a bit, but broke in the process.

It looks like he tried his best to avoid the five grand Lightweights.

Discussion on the move podcast about Alaphilippe using ketone-esters in the final 30km. Never heard of these but apparently it's a third food source along with carbs and fat. Developed by the military and Quick Step is one of the biggest users. It's not illegal btw as it's a supplement but now something to drive the lab nutters into further madness.

Brilliant from Thomas de Gendt and fantastic opportunism from Alaphillippe and Pinot which made for a very exciting finish. However, all those pinning their hopes on a Pinot or Alaphilippe TdF victory are living in cloud cuckoo land IMO.

Once the big mountains come and Ineos start doing their thing it's going to be the same old, same old I'm afraid.

Yeah, I think Ineos/Sky were the first to use them.

Is Thomas DeGendt not good in a bunch ? Just wondering why he doesn't seem to do much in classics given how strong he is in grand tours.

I think he has said he doesn't like riding in a group but I've never worked out if that was a joke!

It's just the by product you get from a ketatonic diet then?

Obviously no understanding of the convention when racing in France. They'll be thrown off the race.

There were a number of complaints about the French motorbikes pacing the French duo, most notably by Fuglsang and Mollema.
    Frankly, I'm shocked.

No, the by-product you get from a ketogenic diet is not making it to the end of stage 1 of the TdF inside the time limit.

    Gif of the crash, here.
As I thought at the time, Thomas was the one who came down hard on his back.

My mistake then, he didn't seem to have a mark on him at the finish so I assumed he was the one who landed on his feet as the other rider looked to have gone down hard which was why I'd wondered if Moscon had finished.
