Thomas beating most GC contenders other than Pinot and Bernal who was one place in front. Superb ride after that hard chase. Seems unscathed luckily.

A great stage overall and a terrific finish with the right winner.
Astana and EF complete donkeys in the tactical game.
Woods ends up losing time, due to crashing into Thomas the tank.

I never thought that break would hold as they were never really given much leeway.

I love stages in the Massif Centrale more than any others. It's been a good route this year with a decent amount of time there and the Vosges.

All that practice at falling over paying off.

Poels did damn well there to get Thomas back on.

Great thing was that most of the risk takers got a reward. TDG got the stage, Alaphillipe a Bastille Day in yellow and Pinot a decent time gain for the GC.

Excellent rides by Sagan and Matthews too but not quite enough to allow their teams to commit to the chase.

    Yeah what were they doing?

No idea.. no idea what they were ever going to achieve, lots of speculation coming from the commentary box but it literally felt like they were just as stumped as us

    Yeah what were they doing?

I wondered if EF were trying to eliminate the better sprinters like Sagan to give Uran a shout at the stage. Maybe Astana hoping to do similar for Fuglsang?

Cracking stage. Would have loved Pinot to take it but unquestionably tdg deserved that win.

Would have to eliminate an awful lot of sprinters - and normal riders - to give Uran a chance to win

Obviously no understanding of the convention when racing in France. They'll be thrown off the race.

Is there a post of the tour thread this year?

    These 2 are contenders.

So Geraint didn't actually hit the deck and managed to dismount onto his feet. Style marks for that! He seemed frustrated that the teams chasing at the end couldn't bring Pinot and Alaphillipe back and seemed to feel he could have done better himself but didn't want to tow anyone else.

Ah it was G with the graceful dismount.

Sounds like Michael Woods when down in front of Thomas.
