It's an 8 stage race, and people moan every year that it "isn't come to my neck of the woods".

Good, my KOMs hopefully safe a bit longer :D

The tdy climbed over one of my kom segments this year... I'm still kom BOOM!

Nice one! I don't kid myself, I'm a small fish in a very small pond around here so any KOMs I get are due to the planets aligning correctly regarding weather, traffic etc. They are however the result of normal rides, there's one particular cyclist around here who just targets KOMS. He'll do a "ride" of 3 miles just to pick off certain segments etc with wind. Kinda funny but also a bit sad. He's a good cyclist but he'll put comments in like "quick ride after work" and does a 2.5 mile ride to get a KOM. Starting miles from where he lives.

    Segment chasers:)

A number of those on that list always do the Canadian races.
Better than getting soaked and frozen, while riding the rubbish parcour dished out again, this year.

Carapaz out of the race. Visa not issued in time.
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

The irony is that Carapaz already has a job lined up with a British company (and for more than the proposed £35,000 skilled worker threshold)

  • That Swift rider getting across. Gamble. :)
  • For a while there I thought we were going to see Cav involved in the sprint.

  • Just catching up on today's stage where they organizers have given a 2km long 3% bump, category 2 status.
    I mean, wtf?

    Is it worth watching?

No. It seems to have descended to Ride London levels of chipperness.

Erm... two days of Scottish sunshine 8)
  • As Trentin said on tv last night. We are waiting the day when it all goes bananas.
  • Well I am enjoying it and that is all that matters :)

I was a bit surprised by the list of last years contenders. I was away and had the feeling it had been a bit of a flop - apparently not

Had quite a stellar cast. Both Froome and Thomas, Carthy, Nieve, Max Schachmann, Tejay van Garderen, Sylvain Chavanel, Ewan, Gaviria and Greipel, Kung, Tony Martin....

In a couple of year time we could be saying how we cant believe that Sivacov rode the TOB and people weren't arsed?

TOB looking a farce at the moment. Peloton stopped at level crossing but break away allowed to complete an extra 1.5km before also being stopped whilst the race is neutralised.
    Just looks amateurish.

    Just looks shoddy.

Peloton allowed to soft pedal up to the break, who will then be given a head start equal to the time gap. So break have to spend an extra ten/fifteen minutes cooling down whilst peloton will only be sat still for an extra four minutes at most. I can't think of a better way of restarting it, but it's obviously imbalanced.

And another level crossing in the next few miles might well cause a repeat...

Not sure how this situation would be dealt with any differently in any other race? It's going to take a little bit of time to communicate between commisaires with peloton and commisaires with break isn't it?

If the peloton gets stuck at crossing the front of the race should know within seconds. There's plenty of radios around to use.

    Is it worth watching?

Nice scenery but otherwise it has been dire. There must be some more selective routes in southern Scotland and Northern England.
    I’m usually easily pleased.

Not worth smashing through my mobile data then. Shame because it could easily have been epic up there.

but thats just the usual point about the race isnt it? the money to stage the race comes from organisations keen to promote tourism to the area, so they pick the nice scenery routes, thats not necessarily always going to deliver top cycling stage racing, but it depends what teams or riders aims are for this stage of the season, nobody wants to get injured this close to the worlds
