If one felt the need to use the term “Sainos” in everyday conversation would one pronounce the ending like Davos or Cheerios?

    I simply wouldn't.
Actually, there is an instance I could use it in conversation, if discussing language and funny things people say I might say "I heard someone refer to Sainsbury's as Saino's 🤣"

Just as well the original shop in question isn't called Dildburys. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

BBC asking if Bale is the best ever British player.
Is he even the best Welsh player?

  • I would say that Bale is in the league of great players. But any other type of comparison is pointless.

Have a look at Bale's Wiki page. Given the number of top flite appearances, he's only had 2/3rds of a career.
That's without subtracting the appearances as a sub.
33 appearances per season average and that includes club and country.

Imo he enjoyed being a big fish in a small pond.
His attitude seemed to change when thrown in with the big fish.

Think that's a bit unfair. He smashed it in big matches, and then when the coach decided he wasn't the right player for the system he chose to earn the money over playing - presumably with one eye on prolonging his international career.

I don't think another team had it in them to pay the wages he was on when he got benched.

I don't doubt that he was a good player who won a lot, but the best ever British player? Come on.

I've no idea why there's the need to do things like that.

Maybe Best could do the things he could, but I can't think of many more. I don't really see the need to decide whether he was better than Southall.

I grew up with Dalglish as the ultimate, but he was a different force.
  • This reminds me of a question "who is the best English player in your time?"

Everybody struggled to answer it which suggests there has been no stand out player since the '66 side.

Foden, seriously? How do you know, he's only 12?

He's good. Given three eras there with real exciting players in each.

    OK then.

Oi, oi, oi, take this football chatter over into the right place, please, as it doesn't intrigue me at all, but I keep on thinking that someone must have posted something intriguing.

I was intrigued as to why the BBC consider Bale as potentially the greatest ever British football player when it's clearly nonsense.

I know he's good but he's not even the best player in the England team right now. Similarly, Rooney plated alongside Giggs and Scholes. So you can immediately rule him out.

    Bizzaro choices.
