They are pure entertainment.
No sex, 2 bowls of rice a day Cody springs to mind.
Then there was that conspiracy theorist Manc33.

Trouble being that newbies might well take them seriously.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Why is being fat an advantage in weightlifting? I know there's a fair bit of muscle beneath the flab and there's an old adage about taking mass to move mass but having a huge gut doesn't seem to provide anything. Lose a bit of weight and you could potentially drop into a lower weight category where even lifting slightly less could give you far more chance of winning.0

Apparently they need to consume up to 10,000 calories a day in order to get strong and train. Getting fat is a side effect of that, if they were to try and get cut like body builders. They get weak.0

Apart from the lifting heavy weights part that sounds like a sport for me.0

I googled this exact thing a week ago.Pross said:Why is being fat an advantage in weightlifting? ...but there are different weight categories.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

Yeah, the heavyweights (male and female) are generally obese though. The Georgian guy that won was seriously impressive though, didn't enter the competition until all the others had done their final weight in both elements.pinno said:...but there are different weight categories.

Afghanistan.
After decades of foreign involvement from both east then west, a military vacuum leaves the place to descend into unrest.
Who will be the next to get sucked in? And what has been achieved in the last 20 years?0 -

Afghanistan: Victim of the cold war and political football.
Any wonder it's such a mess?
A solution: offer the Taliban dollars for opium which we can use to treat heroin addicts (like in France) and satisfy the shortfall in medicinal morphine (the synthetic stuff is horrible - I know) and in the process:
We will no longer be seen as the infidel
We may achieve peace (all bet it in a fragmented Afghanistan)
We could have a bit more control over Heroin use

Like a lot of the UK countryside this year, we are being over run by a plague of wild campers, paddle boarders and wild swimmers, who think that shutting in the bushes, leaving unwanted belongings behind and arson (bbq's) is fashionable.
Some are walking past at the moment, about 2 miles in to a 6 mile walk. In the rain. They look like they packed to board a plane (dragging suit cases, not a back pack in sight) and we've been able to hear them for about the last half hour, from around half a mile away.
Why is there a correlation between intellect and volume?

UPDATE:
They've just knocked on the door to ask us to call a taxi.
"Oor phonesr deed."
(Yes, that's because you've been camping next to someone else's house nearby for 3 days, probably at the same volume).0 -
UPDATE 2:
They are now waiting outside for a taxi, admiring my car. The house smells of weed. They have observed that my neighbour has a WEE DOGGIE. LOOK AT THE WEE DOGGIE..0 -

We had someone crash their car outside last night at 11pm as well. Knocked on the door, didn't know where they were. Got caught oot by the gravel doon the hill.
Nothing to do with the speed you were going.0 -

We didn't ask them in, oddly enough. Aside from there being 9 of them, we have a vulnerable person staying at the moment.surrey_commuter said:

The lesson of history is that no one conquers Afghanistan. I read that in a guidebook prior to the US led invasion.morstar said:Afghanistan.

But, post 911 attempt to find OBL / punish Afghanistan for harbouring him.
Also, there were lots of legitimate concerns about Taliban and this was a convenient opportunity to suppress (I’d say overthrow but y’know) them.
Iraq was unfinished business from Gulf war 1. WMD were trumped up in order to justify expanding the operation into Iraq to make up for the missed opportunity a decade earlier.0
