How long before people start insisting on capitalising Team INEOS then?

    My suggestions below:

I never understood why people kept calling Sky SKY. It's not like it's an acronym for something.

It says SKY on all of their advertising. Same with INEOS and o guess if you put the cash in you expect people to write the team name as you specify.

    :?: :?:
Check out the team's home page which clearly shows a logo stating (ironically) "TEAM sky", as well as a stack of pics showing "sky" written all in lower case.
When the team is mentioned in text, it's written "Team Sky".

    So, apart from that...

It's been written in lower case on all their kit for ages though.

Yes, I did go and check this before posting because I have been bitten by not fact checking through laziness many times...

Their Twitter is also Team Sky https://twitter.com/TeamSky?ref_src=tws ... r%5Eauthor

I can see the BBC report now

"Sir James Ratcliffe, self-made billionaire, philantropist and pioneer of sustainable plastics is in talks to buy Chelsea FC. Meanwhile Jim Ratcliffe, the tax-dodging, Brexiteer fra.cking enthusiast is expected to be the new sponsor of Team Sky."

why change before the Tour though if the Beeb is correct, surely theres some mileage left in Sky getting PR from being involved still even if they didnt win it.

I know in the minds of many there will be little sympathy, but its a bit off on anyone that's shelled out on Sky kit or t-shirts etc this year. They been pushing the tee's on social media just this week.

The teeshirt still functions though ? If you buy team kit it's always going to be out of date.

I guess if you buy a new/current season team Kit, then you want a season of it being current though, wouldn't you?

And supporters tee shirts are just that, if someone wants just a functional tee, then they wouldn't pay the price for one of these? I'd assume they buy it to wear to races to show support, no? I think its a bit cheeky selling 'supporters' merch, 'if' they are going to rebrand mid-season.

Where does it say they're changing their name before the tour?

As an aside regarding a different team, the President of Kazakhstan (for 28 years), a big supporter of Astana and personal friend of Vino has just resigned.

Maybe Vino knows he needs to search for money elsewhere, hence the early season fireworks.

Brailsford has his critics, but it's only three months since Sky announced they were pulling out. That's a pretty impressive turnaround.
It's almost as though having a dedicated team of specialists running the business side of a team is better than a couple of old pros. Who knew?

Very much agree. And, as unfashionable as it is to suggest, its noteable that the team will remain registered here with a British* backer. I think its good, overall, for cycling in the country. Not, just flag waving patriotism.

Got to love Roan's 'analysis' at the end of the story on the BBC website

He's invested sooooo much in that Freeman story. He'll be inconsolable when he finds out he's spent two years of his life obsessing about Shane Sutton's boners.

Opportunity to get some cheap Sky branded Castelli kit too.

Assuming Castelli will still be the kit supplier, but I foresee a load of discounted Sky kit going on sale anytime soon!

Le Tour official store just sent me an e-mail....

I wonder if any of the locals have even heard of Ineos. By locals I don't mean a bunch of southern middle class Spider Nugent wannabes

Given the thousands of anti fracking posters in Ryedale I would guess so. There is an anti fracking meeting tonight at the quakers meeting house in Kirkbymoorside.

and in many ways it feels like the season has only just started, I did quite like their navy fade top this year but was waiting for a sale event, I dont care about looking retro chic :) but I can imagine if youd spent 80quid even on a castelli top and a few weeks later you find they are fire selling the stuff to get rid of it quickly youd be a bit miffed.

be interesting to see if Team INEOS is as popular on the sportive circuit.

it just seems odd that its such a quick changeover, Sky said they had funded the team fully this year and before even half way through the year they will be gone as a main sponsor name before the biggest race, and arguably their whole point in focus,on the calendar

whilst I expect theyll still be a partner logo for the rest of the season, it just seems a quick turnaround, whilst I know 40million is alot they get alot of exposure from it, Sky happily splurged nearly 1.2billion pounds on F1 tv rights over 5 years.

Sky isn't a team sponsor, they owned the team. I would guess that Ineos have agreed to buy/takeover the company immediately. Maybe they only wanted it if they could have it now and have full control.

I bet The Mail will warn Lawton off attacking the new team. Ratcliffe seems like a poster boy for all they stand for so they won't want to upset him and Lawton will have to put his efforts fully into British Cycling instead.
