OK, maybe Sunak isn't quite as competent as I thought. Who drops hints of a SDLT holiday in an attempt to boost the property market?

My (and others') point is that by trailing a future cut/holiday you actually depress the market rather than boosting it. The opposite of what was intended. Particularly stupid when the same party managed to change SDLT without pre-announcing it last time, although Osborne's changes didn't exactly help things.

Rapha learned that lesson when everybody stopped buying at RRP and just waited a couple of months for the next sale.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I reckon a SDLT holiday is large enough to boost the market, but agree giving advance notice has the opposite effect.

It was £60bn before C19 and planned to stay there for five years.

A decade of austerity will do that too in fairness.

that was certainly the attitude taken by Momentum and why they seem to hate Blair more than Thatcher.

personally whilst being a natural Conservative i don't see them as "my side" so take no pleasure from them winning and then acting like a Labour Govt.

From the point of view of the voter, absolutely. Unless of course you are more interested in which group of politicians gets in than what they actually do once they are there. Obviously, if you are an MP, you might want to keep your job.

Spending argument aside, that is only one side of the coin. How they tax us to finance that is relevant and Labour still treats people me like as the enemy.

If the borrowing and spending is a done deal we are arguing about ways of paying it off. It feels odd that you appear to be arguing for paying it off slower.
