Ridiculous comparison. They definitely got rid of people for incompetence.

So, Bojos blind faith in his cabinet regardless of ability…

Is he just loyal? Seems unlikely given his track record in relationships.

Are they the only ones he trusts?

Is the party totally devoid of talent? It’s definitely been thinned but surely there is some talent amongst the crop.

Is he scared of employing talent?

Genuinely interested as they do seem an incredibly incompetent shower of self important idiots.

I suspect he feels none of this matters.
Probably fair. So what’s his motivation for doing the job if he doesn’t care what his government achieves?

    Status and after dinner circuit?
    Stratospheric vanity.

That photo of Raab on the phone.

    I don't get it.

If you are in the s*** for not making a phone call, why would you release a photo that says "See? I can use a phone! I'm very good at phoning people."

Given the entry qualification for a cabinet post was sign up to Brexshit and exhibit a willingness to suck Spaffer's richard then who is surprised by the level of (in)competence?

I try and remain open minded but deep down I truly believe you have to be an idiot to think Brexit is a good idea. Before anybody gets upset I don’t think all idiots support Brexit and that some of them are just pretending to advance their careers
  • I don’t get why this is causing so much anti Tory angst when his indolence at worse will only result is several hundred or a few thousand deaths.

Boris/Hancock are responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths and costing us hundreds of billions.

In proportion the anger and contempt for Raab should be 1% of that for the other two.

I think it's the principle rather than the magnitude. If ever there was a job where you are still on call on holiday, Foreign Secretary would be on the list.

In fairness to Raab his boss was not available at the start of a global pandemic and he was not on holiday.

I really think his “crime” is insignificant compared to his colleagues.

The problem with the modern politician is that they think they are all CEOs. Next time you work for a company of over ten thousand folk try calling up th CEO and see if you get past his handler. Then try phoning his assistant and demand he calls someone immediately.

I am not saying what he did was right however I am pointing out that if you have a culture of voting in those that think they are CEOs and expect them to act with empathy and take the instructions of civil servants you are probably one of those people that thinks doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome is not madness.

He was talking about corded hansets. Most office phones in the 21st century are cordless. They may catch on in Cumbria in another 50 years I suppose

All companies I have worked for were still using corded, and some of them were major blue chip companies. Current company is another blue chip which has me wfh and the supplied headset is corded. Supplied mouse is corded too come to that.
    My equipment is cordless natch.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Never once had a cordless handset on an office desk phone. Too likely to go walkabout and not make its way back to the desk.

Oh dear it is not just me that thinks cordless phones are not in every office. Do you think global companies like Babcock, Cavendish, Atkins all send there corded phones to Cumbria to die.

OK so the levelling up policy of the north should also include headsets so you can make phone calls hands free. What are you doing with your spare hand, writing business down on pen and paper? Is this why productivity is so poor?

Probably, it's where most other things do.

Atkins offices I've been in had cordless handsets. I can't recall the last time I saw a landline used in an office though other than for incoming calls. We have one handset in each room.

It's now emerged that Raab wasn't just asked to make a phone call, but was told by no. 10 to come home and deal with the escalating situation on Friday 13th, yet persuaded the PM that he could stay until Sunday.

And delegated the call, which never got made, and the justification is "nothing we do matters anyway".

I know I shouldn't, but this "survey" put out by the Tories and the vast majority of the replies to it just fecking breaks my heart. Call me a bleeding heart liberal or whatever, but it's just shameful.

What the replies are is what Cummings has been saying for about 10 years for anyone who was paying attention. (No neither was I)

He wrote something later about “most people are extremists regarding immigration”

Armed Forces Minister on TV this morning actually seemed quite competent. Answered direct questions, knew his numbers. I accept that definition of competent is the absolute bare minimum you would generally expect from a Minister but compared to many more senior Ministers he stands out.
