It was a whistleblower, so will have protections.

Still find the most worrying thing being that there was CCTV in a Minister's office apparenty without their knowledge and that this has somehow been leaked. It feels like quite a major security issue not to mention a data protection breach. I assume it has come from Cummings or one of his people as it seems odd it suddenly came out around the time Cummings was publically laying into Hancock.

I thought the footage was from a corridor.

It is worrying as you say however, that its been leaked. It's a major security issue.

This is definitely not the last of it.
I don't think it is a security issue as I think it was deliberately released by those in charge. Less worrying for the public, but a bit obvious.
No, it was leaked to the Sun, that's not legal.
I refer you to the post above.
A minion might get blamed, but there will be an investigation. I actually have some prior knowledge of this area and been involved in the follow up after some CCTV footage was released from a publicly owned building that didn't follow process. There would be very strict controls about accessing, sharing and releasing CCTV footage from inside a government building.

The problem here is that if the whistleblower went through official channels it would have been brushed under the carpet and the tape wiped. Anyone else in the UK breaching essentially health and safety guidance at work would have been bagged. I would have leaked the tape if I was that person.

Not sure that covers these circumstances.

Politician knowingly breaking the rules he has put in place. It's the reason, they aren't going to go after the leaker.

There's reporting it and then there's sending a copy of the footage to a newspaper. I don't doubt the person who leaked it will be protected as they were probably encouraged to do it but I'm not convinced it isn't illegal.

I may have missed the explanation but isn’t the big story that somebody placed a hidden camera in a senior minister’s office.

That is an illegal act if not authorised.

There is only one person who can authorise surveillance on a Govt Minister and he is a fine upstanding pillar of the community

If by hidden, you mean bloody great thing hanging out of the ceiling, then yes

I've not seen any suggestion that the camera was hidden.

The thought occurs that Hancock could have leaked it himself as an escape plan from the job and his marriage.

Someone above suggested it was in a corridor but the still image I saw certainly looked like it was in the office

Apologies, yes just looked again, it's an office and it's implied its his own office?

If so, that is a data security issue.

The footage must have been released to get rid of him and replace with someone more willing to end restrictions.

    That's good.

This byelection seems to be a result of all the partisanship and dirty tricks that were kicked off during the EU referendum campaign. We've had nothing but that kind of crap since, but it's all been distilled down in this one election.

It’s an interesting take but makes the agenda quite clear.
He isn’t in the running to win but is desperate for Labour to lose to weaken Keirs leadership.

Better a pure socialism that can’t win than a moderate party that could.

No. He - Lee Anderson MP - has confirmed that he is continuing his boycott, but will check his phone for updates and cheer if England score. I swear I am not making that up.

Labour's response is quite funny (Anderson was born the year after we last won anything, so...)

So The Times reckons that the Govt is going to compensate consumers for higher fuel Bill s caused by Carrie’s dash for green.

With the extensive bungs to the car industry even Corbyn must be worried for the health of the money tree.

I wonder if they will go the full hog and collectivise the farms?
