They took that very cautiously. Bora in front.

Bardet puncture - having a wheel change. Bad luck so early on

Bardet about a minute back on the peloton. Going to be a hard chase as the cobbles come quite close together

    All through with no crashes.

Not sure the stage is long enough to be truly attritional, no real gaps created - except Bardet's puncture.

Moscon must have had an issue as he is out the back.

Going to get towed back by Dillier though :D

I thought it was broadly equivalent to being on a wild goose chase or otherwise being on a fool's errand
Thanks. Though my schoolboy French was correct, interesting idiom. Every days a school day.

Yeah, I've always heard it as "potato hunt", an exercise in futility.

    Interesting one for Moscon.
Clearly he won't want to help Bardet, but will want to regain contact from Froome/Thomas asap.

Well Moscon will be on his own now as Bardet had to stop again for a bike change

Have any of the cobble sections been drenched with a hose pipe to spice things up a bit?

TV graphics would be improved with a timer counting down to the next cobble section.
Yeah, didn't they do that for Paris-Roubaix this year?

Craddock gamely holding onto the peloton. Looked like he was trying to keep his weight on one side at the end of the second cobbled section though.
