Yep, had we not contradicted him, he would still be on here entertaining all of us. What we should have done is the opposite.

I tried putting lube in it, and it fixed for a while but now it's started again! I contacted the LBS and they told me that they contract out all their wheel work to some business in West Mailing, which is miles away, and a pita to get to by train. Their website trumpets about they have access to a gazilion parts and they have hundreds of years experience, but it seems they can't even do this one simple thing. I thought this was supposed to be an easy job that any LBS would do?? The only other nearby place is Halfords and I don't even know if they do random bike repairs!

Have you tried the shop you bought it from?

I didn't buy it in a shop I bought it direct from the bike manufacturer. I've now emailed somewhere in Rochester, which means a train ride, but it's a hell of lot nearer, and easier to get to, than West Mailing.

You might find the LBS - or the West Mailing outfit - offer a collection service.

Why not buy a new wheel after all it sounds pretty crap. You probably could get one for less than your train fare.

The LBS I originally tried does, but, as I say, when I emailed them about it they directed me to the West Mailing outfit. They don't say anything about a collection service on the website, and it doesn't look like a very big operation. I'd prefer to get it done by somewhere local tbh. I'm still waiting to hear from the place in Rochester. I'm thinking I might give Halfords a go, as apparently they do bike repairs and there's one not far away. Even nearer than the original LBS I tried in fact.

I just booked it in be fixed at the local Halfords, but they can't do it until next Thursday.

I've also just heard back from the place in Rochester, who said they would look at it and give an opinion, but don't have access to parts for that make of wheel.............

Do you think it will ok to ride until then, or should i keep it garage bound?

If the freehub's knackered there are 3 possibilities if you continue to ride it:

    1) It will still function but make a racket as the bearings deteriorate further
    2) It will lose drive as the pawls / ratchet mechanism fails. Could be intermittent or permanent, which could leave you stranded, possibly with contused testicles if it happens on a steep climb.
    3) It will seize up completely, instantly turning your bike into a fixed gear, which if you're not expecting it could put you in hospital.

So far all you've said is you think there's noise coming from the freehub, but you haven't mentioned it sticking or jumping so I'd guess it's bearing related and that option 1 is the most likely.

But it's your teeth and testicles...

Just buy some Mavic or fulcrums, stop faffing about.

I thought I'd have another go at trying to it myself. Apparently you're supposed to put a 5 mm allen key in one end, and another 5 mm allen key in the other end and then turn them against each other. That is what every thing I've found about this wheelset says. But a 5 mm allen key will not fit one one side! No allen key I have will fit! This is f'ing stupid. Why the f do they have to make what should be a simple job so obscure, and it seems even the same wheels are not consistent!

I've manged to undo one side at last. Maybe I'm getting somewhere.

I'm stuck again! I managed to get one bolt off, but I can't get the drive side bolt off because I've got nothing to brace against whilst I turn it! This is stupid.

I suppose you're supposed to brace it with the allen key in one end, but I've already stripped that part when I tried to get it off before. And I since I ended up stripping it I don't see how it would have worked any better this time?

I think I'm going to have to give up and leave it to Halford's......

I've finally attained some clarity. Apparently there has been a design change. One version of my wheelset has a black freehub, that is (apparently) a sealed unit, and is the one everywhere is describing, and there is a newer version with a silver freehub with the pawls exposed, which the one I appear to have. I think the mounting system is different on each version.

I tried giving it another go, I still can't get the bloody thing off, so I've got no choice but to leave it to Halfords. I thought this was supposed to be an "easy" job. It's not easy at all.

I emailed Vision about how to get if off and this is what they said...
Thanks for the photos, this free hub can be removed once the drive side cone nut has been removed with a 17mm cone spanner and 5mm hex wrench in the axle end.

Which way though? It won't undo clockwise, which is the way it goes in their YT video.

    Have you asked them?

Tbh, the time spent faffing about you could have done a 8hr shift in McDonald's and bought a new set of wheels.

I've already sent a reply, but haven't heard back yet. It will not undo do the way it says to undo it in their video. And I can't do it the other way way because I stripped the axle trying to it the way the show, so I can't stop it turning. And why the hell would it turn the opposite way from their other wheels with what appears to be exactly the same kind of mounting system, and from the way the way their instruct you to turn it?

You know what I think. I think that whoever constructed the wheel just did up the nut far too tight, so now it is almost impossible to undo.

If I knew it was going to be this much hassle I would have taken to Halford's straight off, but I believe the people who said it would be "easy".......

Does anyone know if Halford's do this sort of thing there and then, or will they take the bike in, and contact me later when it's ready? I ideally want to be able to leave my bike there so I can go out for the day, and collect it later.

Once I realised that I had knackered it I would have looked on the internet for a replacement wheel that was in a sale and bought it, that way I wouldn’t have spent a couple of weeks riding on a knackered wheel.

I heard from FSA and apparently you're supposed to undo it anticlockwise. So why do they show it being undone clockwise in their video...?

Yes, let's just throw everything away that's not working. Chain worn out? Hell don't bother replacing it, just buy a whole new bike. You're a class A clown aren't you.

You called me a cretin, yet you have a wheel that most people wouldn’t have on a bike for going to shops. yet YOU MANAGED to f*ck it up. Despite that you persist on prattling on about it yet even with your super intellectual ability. You can’t even pick the right size Allen key.
I rode my bike today over hill and dale, what did you achieve other than taking your self in hand.
I going to stick with the the toc H lamp.

And no I didn't "manage fuck it up". I followed the directions that were given to me.
