Brailsford has repeatedly said that Froome is the most determined bloke he has ever met. I think to hatch a plan to attack on the Finestre with 80km to go knowing how much time is required is one thing. To actually pull it off is almost unimaginable.

Apart from the Wiggins debacle, he doesn't seem like that as well (RR2 may disagree). Always comes across really friendly and super nice!

    Four.

I think he means 5 GTs.

It was clearly planned. The way they had so many people along the route to hand out bottles etc. They new he was going to try something from far, far out.

To be fair if you've won, what 5 GTs, you have nothing left to prove, so you might as well try it.

I can't help but admire Froome's mental fortitude. It's really something. He'd make a formidable secret agent.

I assume the clinic has gone into meltdown?

A day of racing from the 1950s. Chapeau.

Tomorrow - surely Fortress Froome will be Sky's plan.

Even if its planned, you've still got to pull it off and hope no-one else responds. In their evaluation of how things might pan out for the day you'd had possibly agreed that attacking on Finistere was the right idea, and that had a decent chance of cracking someone. But I doubt there'd have been much money on Froome being solo with an advantage of 40s at Finisterre and then extending it much beyond 90s by the finish.

Froome shedding a tear in the interview with Flecha

Ruthless on the bike but comes across as human off it, I remember how gutted he looked climbing off in the 2014 tour

In the interview just now he sounded like he really enjoyed it too. Saying he's never raced like that before.

I've noticed this weird thing quite a few times in the past. For some reason, people are associating perceived looks/demeanour to character traits. There are plenty of 'baby faced' brutes and monsters out there, one would think people would have learned by now.

As did Brailsford, sounds like he enjoyed planning a proper big attack rather than chipping away at holding a lead

Apparently he's said he rode within himself today and didn't go to the limit...

Not sure Hurt was the best choice of lead out song for Eurosport - I get the sentiment but it does have quite a few references to injecting drugs...

Chapeau to Yates, still a young chap. Cyclists show they don’t gain your full strength until late twenties, early thirties. He’ll be back stronger.

God I'm dreading the reactions to this in my office on Monday.

I'll be having to studiously avoid all my 'Sky are all doping' colleagues who like to conveniently gloss over the tawdry recent history of Dutch cycling.

Yeah, the interesting thing is not that Froome’s attack was planned – of course he couldn’t have pulled it off without all those feed bottles, team members fully committed to their role, etc. The interesting thing is that the ride went according to plan. Such desperate plans rarely come to fruition.

I think the parcours and the tactics flattered the athleticism of his ride, but it’s still a day for the history books.

I still can't believe he attacked when they were still in the trees on the Finestre.

I'm going to have to watch the highlights show.
