Lots of racing left in this Giro!!
I defy anyone to look at stages 19 and 20 and say this is over.

surprise even for those of us who though he would do well.... TD didn't deliver .

Think that's a bit harsh, given that he was only 22 seconds behind Dennis. He could have won the stage and still been well off the lead. The credit really ought to go to Yates for limiting the damage so well.

hmmmm maybe.... i think everyone had him down for the win thou...

Yep. I did anyway. He was a bit worse than I expected.
Yeah, I was half expecting Dumoulin to thump everyone like last year.

A very good ride from Dennis in that context - with Martin, van Emden etc presumably having taken it easy last week with an eye on the TT coming up.

the whole race could fall apart on those two days.

Little bit, but his name isn't Chris Froome so they aren't that bothered it seems.

When did a specialist climber last lose a GT through sub-par climbing performances in the last couple of days?

Plus they would have to actually have watched the race rather than rely on Twitter to form their opinion for them.

could be TD that cracks completely from the effort in the third opening a mass barney for the podium.

Stage 18 to Prato Nevoso looks to particularly suit Dumoulin (and Froome), so could be interesting there.

The final climb to Cervinia on 20 is steady too (and the climb before), although there's a lot of climbing I think the stage probably doesn't favour Yates over Dumoulin.

But Stage 19 is balls out, clearly favours Yates I would think?

The big question is surely whether Yates can keep this going till Saturday.

I don't see how Yates can lose this now. All the terrain is in his favour to defend or attack if needs be.

Really? You've never seen a contender lose more than a minute in the final week of a GT? One crash or messing up his nutrition could lose him the race at a stroke.

Kruijswijk/Chaves at 2016 Giro. I know SK crashed but Chaves didn't.

It's unusual though to have this much climbing left after the last TT.

We couldn't see how he could lose Paris-Nice either, but he did.

(Slight exaggeration, but he really shouldn't have lost)

Yeah, and he could get struck by lightning. I'm talking about normal racing course of events rather than acts of God.

There was about two pages of snide comments when he crossed the line tbf.

All the talk about the podium battle being interesting is a little optimistic, btw. I know pinot gets better in the third week and hasn't figured out how to work his test days but no way he's pulling a minute back in froome.

Pozzo is looking stronger than he has done in recent years, but id be surprised if he holds on.

All of which means yates-pozzo-pinot in the podium, no doubt.

i think everyone is feeling it...TD may crack first I suspect.

someone mentioned sky putting the pressure on... they havn't been the wind as much could make a difference.

I think pinot and TD are vulnerable too.
