HA The race for third looks good, Definite possibility for Froome to be on the Podium.

1'-18" it is. Lost 53" only.

surprise even for those of us who though he would do well.... TD didn't deliver .

Think that's a bit harsh, given that he was only 22 seconds behind Dennis. He could have won the stage and still been well off the lead. The credit really ought to go to Yates for limiting the damage so well.

1'18" the new gap between Yates and TD
    56 i think

yeah, I was trying to report the deficit to TD in the TT, not the new gap, but I got that wrong too

Yates in 22nd postion, which seems fair.

GC result says 56 seconds between Yates and Dumoulin

I think the countdown was talking shite - what it was reporting seems to be about the amount which Yates lost to Dumoulin (it was reading something like 1'18" on the line, and from the GC it looks like Yates lost 1'15" to Dumoulin in the TT, so about the same).

Great ride by Yates, less so by Dumoulin. TD definitely not up to last year and he's going to find it hard in the mountains to come. Yates can ride conservatively and crush it if he needs to. Tom's got no cards left to play.

Nah. Bonus seconds should be just for racing, if they have to have them at all.

    New top 10:

    1 Simon Yates (GBr) Mitchelton-Scott 65:57:37
2 Tom Dumoulin (Ned) Team Sunweb 0:00:56
    3 Domenico Pozzovivo (Ita) Bahrain-Merida 0:03:11
4 Chris Froome (GBr) Team Sky 0:03:50
    5 Thibaut Pinot (Fra) Groupama-FDJ 0:04:19
6 Rohan Dennis (Aus) BMC Racing Team 0:05:04
7 Miguel Angel Lopez (Col) Astana Pro Team 0:05:37
8 Pello Bilbao (Spa) Astana Pro Team 0:06:02
9 Richard Carapaz (Ecu) Movistar Team 0:06:07
    10 George Bennett (NZl) LottoNL-Jumbo 0:07:01

So that was good for Froome and Dennis.

It was definitely going backwards though so seemed to be the GC difference. Carlton was probably in charge of it.

Good stuff from Dennis but I can't see him staying in touch with Lopez and Carapaz over the final 3 days.

I would make them use the same bike for all stages; it's one race, so one bike!

With Dumoulin needing Yates to falter it's useful to him that Froome is close to the podium and Sky are likely to put the pressure on. It would be ironic if this helped him to win after saying Froome shouldn't be there.

It did say "Countdown to keeping the pink jersey" or something - so made sense to me. If that had got to zero, Dumoulin would have been in pink.

One thing it does show is that Dumoulin was right to complain about Pozzo and Pinot not riding with him on Sunday. They might have kept Froome off the podium, whereas now they've got a real fight on for third.
