Someone moved quick on that. landa is off to Bahrain but will he find success there? He certainly appears the strongest in every GT he does when the road goes up

Rumours are Quintana is on his way out as well. Begs the question who Movistar will have as a GC rider if he does.

Quintana to the ineos too! FFS really? Ludurious team roster.

Quintana! Maybe as a super domestique but not as a leader. He hasnt lived up to the hype but he is/was certainly good

Arkea-Samsic really? That's most of their budget surely.

My guess is that any arrangement Carapaz had made before this Giro has been ripped up now.

Landa leaving doesn't make sense to me, when others around him going will leave him at the top of the Movistar GC pecking order...

My speculation is that Ratcliffe has seen Carapaz and said "want". Apparently they're having to buy Movistar out of the rest of his contract.

The talk in Italy* is that this arrangement was made last year, pre-Ineos

His agent would be derelict if he didn't ensure that.

Being honest I've been working away for the majority of this Giro and haven't had access to a TV or a decent internet connection. Actually for most of this year.
Has Carapaz been that good or is this more a case of the someone doing well against limited competition? (Not in anyway trying to put a shadow on his performance, its an honest question and only based on what I've read in this forum and cyling news)
Anyone else think Alaphillipe should be groomed to be a GC contender? I always Movistar would be a good move for him, not that there's any rumours in that - just me thinking out loud.

He took some time with a couple of opportunist moves before they hit the mountains while no-one was watching him. Time-trialled ok and then always been in the front GC group as Roglic fell away and Nibali's attacks came to little. His team have been strong enough to subdue threats.

Alaphillippe isn't a GC rider - not consistent enough. It's possible he could end up that way with a load of aero training, but he's more of a lightweight Sagan than anything - his TTing is never going to be good enough to compete with the modern GC rider

I kinda get the feeling with Carapaz that he's done well because the others didn't regard him as a real contender, hence he was allowed to get a bit of time here and there. If he wins the Giro, as seems likely, then that won't be possible in future races and he'll be marked a lot more.

Agree. He gained considerably at the beginning when he wasn't seen as a threat. It may be more of a Ryder Hesjedal Giro win than a portent of coming greatness.

Maybe with Ineos' resources behind him though, if they were all in for Carapaz that would make up for a lot of marking.

He certainly seemed more than capable of going with any moves in the latter part of the race.

Is it a done deal with Ineos? Listening to Bruyneel apparently Movistar are a major player in S.American communications so it could be they'll find the extra to keep him on the squad. Quintana supposedly for Arkea. Remember when he was going to dominate every GT at will?

If all these rumors come true it looks like Movistar will be all in for Valverde next year!

Was reported pretty much done if not actually done.

Things can change though I guess.

Where would Carapaz fit at Ineos? Froome and Thomas probably have a few years left yet, and Bernal is their obvious go to man next. Sivakov showed he's got a future, and you've got Dunbar, Hart and Sosa to add to Poels, Kwia etc. It's as stacked for GTs as Quickstep's roster is for classics.

Jumbo Visma want to sign Kittel apparently... lead out man for Dylan?

I would see Carapaz as someone with leadership, perhaps jointly, at the Giro and maybe also at the Vuelta. He's probably not best suited to the Tour, which favours power climbers. Possibly Sosa's future too.

Froome will continue to favour the Tour (and maybe Vuelta) and him and Thomas will gradually be phased out in favour of Sivakov and Bernal.

People say Carapaz would be down the pecking order at Ineos, but until recently he was fourth choice at Movistar (maybe even fifth behind Soler)

I suppose it depends how much Thomas and Froome have left in them and if the young guys are ready to step up, possibly even next year. Carapaz is obviously ready to go now whereas we don't know before the other youngsters can fill the gap.

Would Kittel go for that? Think he has quite the ego.

According to the Italian newspaper La Gazetta Dello Sport in last wednesdays paper they said that Carapaz and Brailsford are to meet this week to put pen to paper on a contract to sign for Team Ineos that will increase Carapaz salary by no less than 14 times. His current salary is said to be €150000 per year. :D
