I don't understand Froome's tactics at all. Why let dangerous men like Lopez and Contador get over one minutes lead and then let Nibali dictate when the race is going to kick off?

Maybe Froome is not on a good day, maybe he is hampered by injuries from the crashes, maybe he thinks he is better served not going to feel today then gaining lots of time in Tuesdays ITT, maybe they think they can reel in Contador etc towards the end. Maybe they don't consider them as danger men.

Eurosport Player seems to be a bit temperamdental since it was updated. On the plus side it thinks I'm in Germany so no Kirby!

Bit temperamental? Understatement of the year!

To be honest this is the first time I've used the updated version. Have just been catching the Vuelta highlights on ITV4 due to the vastly superior commentary.

Why would Froome was to attack early or chase those moves and risk losing his team mates with a long way to go.

Judge it at the end of the stage. If they reel everyone in then the tactics were perfect.

Froome group are catching Contador group. Gap now under 40s now.

So the answer to the conundrum is: Sky slow and steady wins the race tactic

Yates starting to look a bit laboured. Red jersey group now less than 40s behind Contador group

Gap coming down now, looks like a catch before the end.
  • Why did they have to change the route to this usual plod up Sierra Nevada?
This is like watching paint dry.

Contador hasn't done a tap for kms, letting Lopez mule for him all the way.

Lopez showing his potential. Shame about the first few days of the Vuelta otherwise he would be well placed.

Fantastic scenery, far more attractive than the TdF and Giro.

    Eh? Surely you jest.

Yates' advantage is crumbling. Lopez to take it easily IMO.
  • Froome group closing quickly. Time gap ticking down very quickly

    Edit: curse you predictive text
  • Lopez catches Yates
  • Under a minute to Froome. Yates cracks. Bertie caught

Contador and Bardet caught... Proving why everyone ignored him when he went.

Is that Jack Haig on the back of the group of favourites for Orica Scott? Bloody good ride from him again.
  • Lopez hardly breathing...
  • Contador's showboat is sunk.

Great ride again by Lopez. Shame about Simon Yates though. All this GC racing inside the final few hundred metres for a few bonus seconds on the line is getting boring though.

Kelderman takes 3rd and the 4s bonus. Froome 47s behind Lopez on the line. Nibali loses maybe 5s. Contador well dropped by the line
