So the men get the stage closed to the public, but the women have to pass a random cyclist with a rucksack on their back?  :?

edit - i'm watching with no sound, so don't know who they are

But that is Lizzie Deignan doing the pace work - ex-worldChamp as super-super-domestique; or is she just pacing herself

Yep. And the GB jersey looks great on her.

The Canyon Sram kits this year are a bit rubbish compared to last year.

    Riding for Guarnier, I suspect?

Have I been watching durianrider and taking some of his opinion as gospel, or are loads of the women here using a cadence well below ~90rpm, which will be catastrophic for metabolites in their legs on this ~14km col?

    Guarnier dropped?

Good roadside support - sounded like people were worried there would be no-one there yet before the stage.

I thought that was correct - cannot see Lizzie being able to win on Izoard. Megan just got dropped and lizzie dropped off the pae

And the Sky parallel is so strong - Kwia/Lizzie; get one of the best riders in the world to set up your climbers
  • Lizzie's killed off Megan!

I wouldn't repeat that in front of Lizzie any time soon

Very surprised to see Lizzie up there, not only holding her own but just put in a bit of a dig. They'll need to distance her before the top I should think.

Great ride here from Lizzie D. Be amazing if she can win this. Seems to have great legs.

Van Vleuten has a gap, slowly pulling away on her own.

Annemiek is on the attack (and I really don't like skinsuits can I just say)

    Anyway, roadside attractions.

Problem is you've got limited time to get spectators up the road - unless they've got vans or are prepared to camp, they've got to get up during the day.
Close the roads = no spectators - unless the organisers arrange transport.

The police outriders should've stopped him though - at least he could wait for the race to go past on a rolling block.

We went up to the first MTF this year - wanted to take our van to somewhere between the 10 and 6km to go mark - roads were closed - no motor traffic !! Didn't seem handy considering we had a 2yo and 2 OAPs who can't walk far ... but the organisers had arranged massive carparking (free) and coached spectators up the road to the 6km to go mark - again no cost to the spectator ...
I can see why they didn't want us driving up - the team busses were taking up the parking spaces and there was limited roadside parking - so whilst it wasn't ideal (we could've done with the van) - it was pretty good - and got us into a good position to see the tour ...
My 2yo son LOVED the caravan ... "more", "More", "MORE" !! :D

Van Vleuten goes again and opens a big gap. Lizzie and FDJ rider behind with another small gap to Borgini. Looks between those 4 but don't forget this is just setting things up for the pursuit on Saturday so Lizzie looking good for the overall.
