Do they hover periodic recaps/ highlights of what's happened realist on the stage for those who haven't watched it all?

No, it was just straight through, km after km... the commentators going for lunch, coming back... dear oh dear..

"As far as the Tour de France goes, that was as relaxed as it gets for us GC riders," Froome said. "Of course, the sprinters had a big battle in the final, but for us, it was a pretty uneventful day - just stay out of the wind, stay on the wheels and save as much energy (as possible) for the days coming up."
'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP

Given their other option, after 4 straight weeks of wall-to-wall tennis and with tennis all over the BBC,
    is........................more tennis, I'm not complaining.
    Not tv's fault.
It's amazing that the ASO chose to go blanket this year, after designing this turd of a Tour, though.

Looking forward to the weekend. (before another pair of these stages)

Pross, I live in Singapore mate so don't get ITV4 but with the time difference it's 7 through to midnight so whilst I don't have to watch it all, there's not much else to do in this hot and humid place....

If there's a move early on the stage they always kicked off the coverage showing you what's happened so far that day.

And yes,if the route was more exciting and the peloton taking it a bit for seriously then it'd be worthwhile.

as far as I can see Kittel just had to sit alongside the others then engage the afterburners, the last 50 metres was where he made the difference. Demare does look to be the 2nd best, and might suit other slightly harder terrain. I reckon Demare may well keep the green if he stays on his bike.

On Vive le Velo last night.
A slow motion zoomed view of a guy 1.5kms from the finish, leaning over the barriers, facing the charging peloton, taking snaps on his SLR.
SLR smacks into a Katusha riders arm. Had he not had the camera on a strap, in would have ended up in the bunch.
Katusha riders turns around and flips him a massive bird.

Watch till the break goes, see a chateau or two, then go read a book for 3 hours.

José Been picked that up in the replays of the final run in on the Eurosport coverage. What a bell-end. When will people learn?

You'd have missed the parasol. I think that is all that happened in 200km yesterday.

Fairly detailed and good summary of the stage. It's in Dutch, unfortunately
