Dangerous Demare again. He's the new Sagan.
Kittel wins coming from this Tour's unfashionable side.

    Anyhow thank God, its....

Demare looked like he went for a suicidal gap and got through. Think even he was surprised.

because good guy EBH chose not to close the door on him unlike...well
  • Blimey, he came from nowhere. Excellent stuff.

If Sagan was a DQ, Demare has to get a relegation here

Greipel made contact with a spectator I believe...in the run in.

    Intentional? In a Hinault style?

That Katusha rider cost Groenewegen a shot at the podium.

Especially has he had a verbal warning from the race jury about his taking Bouhanni's line on stage 4.
After all, in Sagan's DQF it was about sending a message to the sprinters.

    They should, but they won't.

Maybe given he's had a warning but it's a different kind of thing. Demare went for a gap that probably wasn't safe to go for but given he got through it's hard to say it wasn't a big enough gap. Yes there is minor contact - think I might give him a second warning and leave it.

Jose suggesting the teams of sprinters who were beaten may stick a man in the break to spice it up tomorrow.

I know it's a joke, but Bardet was chucked off the Paris Nice in pretty short order

Kittel was basically riding 2kph faster than anyone else at the finish.

When he's in top form he is properly unbeatable.

Quick Step did a great job too.

Watched again, wasn't as bad as it looked. Or bad at all.

Gap was there, and ebh held his line. Someone else came through after Demare.

Kudos for DD for having a go - I guffawed at first, but on reflection surely EBH was taking a chance on another pileup to make his long effort pay. A damn good go from 600 out I thought.

Surprised to see people calling Demare's sprint unsafe. It was risky but ultimately he was flat out catching EBH and had a choice of taking a tight gap or giving up. As Greipel said in his post race interview they are sprinters and taking risks is part of it. Demare's line was very straight, I thought it was a really good, daring sprint and impressive bike handling. Before long people will have lanes like an athletic track painted on the roads with each sprinter allocated one they have to stay in.

One thing that does need consideration is a double row of barriers in the last 300m to stop spectators leaning into the road on the sprints.

Wow that was a boring stage.

Eurosport show the full stages now, I've watched every minute this tour.... previous years was far better because when they replayed the highlights of the previous state for an hour then switch into the final 80-100k of the current stage.

It also plays a bigger ask on the commentators to remain interesting which in Sean Kelly's case is a big ask, he's resorting to ranting how Sagan is innocent. Kirby of course can burble about noting for hours on end. Brian Smith's doing a good job.

But showing a full stage when the riders are tootling along talking to each other is as boring as hell, I vote they revert to the former format of previous highlights + last 80-100k.
'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP

You do realise that just because it is being broadcast it isn't essential that you watch don't you? I'd rather they show it all and then at least you can see what has happened. There have been stages in the past where there has been an early attack on the yellow jersey and no-one has been sure how it happened. I just have it on in the background when working at home and keep half an ear on it in case anyone is getting excited and take an occasional glance at the scenery. Try switching to ITV4 as well, they have a far better presenting team.
